I remember at least one time having a Huge Calliope come thru our town ...with a circus parade....that calliope was a big thrill...I’d waited many years to hear it and it was so Loud, it vibrated the body..! Maybe had one when younger but tho we had an era of time when we had a circus in town, they didn’t all have a Calliope. I remember going to see the animals come off a train..the big ole elephants lumbering off very controlled. They were a pure wonder.

I went there with a group from school when I lived in Tampa in 1970. We went to a play at the Aslo theater and had to critique it later for class. I took a few pictures, such as of my friend Debbie by the statue of David, me sliding down the banister at the theater, and our class eating a picnic lunch near the parking lot. All that is left is the picture of us all eating lunch. However, the memories are what is important. In 1975 I went back there on a trip with my husband. So much has changed now, better displays and buildings kept up. Thanks so much for sharing a great Florida treasure!

Ca’ d’ Zan is a beautiful mansion. Glad to see the mansion has reopened. I was waiting for it to reopen to re-up my annual pass. Been an annual pass holder for three years now. I can’t get enough of that place. Beautiful place for photographers. Normally they have guided tours of that house. Hopefully that will start back up soon too. You have to return to the mansion during Christmas. They decorate the place really pretty.

Well Jay that’s a surprise, I was just there the 16th! My father in law lives literally 2 blocks away and was the director of merchandising for Ringling in the 90’s. It’s amazing isn’t it? So much to see! Th art museum is outrageous, Ringling had so much money it will blow your mind.

Wow, what an amazing place and somewhere I would definitely like to visit. All that wealth that was generated because of this circus and other than this mansion and museum all that remains of it is gone. The Ringling family sold the circus in 1967 and now it is no longer, going out of business in 2017. What a shame.
@Luv2tickt2 жыл бұрын
I was there last in 2015, they were doing some work on the second floor but we still could get the tour. Amazing views from the balcony over the grand room as you can imagine. Perhaps they've opened it and if you get the opportunity, it would be a decent place to take Cris the Girl! I dig yet another Wisconsin connection, as the Ringling Bro's Circus was founded in Baraboo, Wisconsin. They have the "Circus World Museum" which is also a cool place to visit...actually there's a nearby winery and Devils Lake State Park that's what really makes the trip worth it! Pee Wee used to hang out at another theater on South Trial. They ripped that down and there was a Kenny Rogers' Roasters for quite a few years. It's now an artsy pizza place.

I really hope you’re going to do the art museum and the grounds, I’m sure you are, there is so much to see and it is all breathtakingly beautiful! 😍Their house is stunning, the views are amazing, I’m not crazy about the actual Ciircus museum part )but that Train is cool!), howver - the art museum is where it’s at! 👏❤️🎨🖼🖌🎪 And yes, Asolo Rep is an awesome place to see a production - it’s gorgeous too! I was just talking about that movie yesterday, I had not put that together. That is so cool. I really enjoyed my time here, and I will be going back, wasn’t able to visit the art museum… I wanted to savor that experience
@elyseraval82733 жыл бұрын
@@TampaJay its the very end when you see the couple trying to sell another money pit to unsuspecting people. . Im sure you can search it. The other house in the movie is on Long Island if I recall correctly, close to where I grew up. Definitely need to go back to see the rest. They also filmed great expectations at the house.(Gwyneth Paltrow version). We happened to visit when it was happening and the house was made to look horrible. ..

Love this place, I miss the circus. I think it's sad that our generation was the last to witness a true circus. They will never know the mean of "that place was a three ring circus" I do understand though about treating the animals humane but the history is great. Also a lot of ghost stories about circus train crashes in Illinois.
@dantastic36583 жыл бұрын
Those animals had the best care and health care that you could ask for. The one's that hated the circus never seen behind the scenes they just watched a fake documentary or listened to lies online. Ringling bros was awesome.
