Hunting for shells in Florida is so much fun! We normally are on a beach in Southwest Florida looking for shells but we took a road trip to the East Coast of Florida to check out some different beaches and try our luck at East Coast shelling. Coral Cove Park came up a few times in my research, so we decided that was going to be our shelling beach for the day. The weather didn't really cooperate, however we did get to see the south end of Blowing Rocks Preserve.
Here is the address for Coral Cove Park:
19450 County Hwy 707, Tequesta, FL 33469
And here is a link if you'd like to read more info on Blowing Rocks Preserve:

I have dicovered your chanell couple of days ago and been binge watching it :)and enjoying every moment. Living in the North West of Englad we dont get all those beautiful exotic shells (we do get a huge tulips -at least that what I think they are) but we get a beautiful sea glass. Greetings from the Great Britain and thank you for taking me on an adventure with you :) x

Hello beach friend from across the pond! I always appreciate how lucky I am to live where I do, and I'm so glad I can share my walks and finds with others that can't be here. I've found about 2 pieces of sea glass in the year of beach exploring down here. All the other glass is junk, but my husband keeps it and melts it down so at least we use it for something. Winter is coming, which means hopefully the shells will be coming too :) I'm so happy you found my channel and thank you so much for watching!

your so lucky. I was looking for some nice shells to put my air plants in and saw a few nice shells and they all suddenly grew on me.im a shelladdict .i was an avid gardener and already disabled .then one day i was sat on a stool bending and reaching and next day so much pain. had fractured 12 vertebra in my spine. had to battle it alone for whole of lockdown started on air plants because I can't bend, can't lift barely walk. air plants led to shells and the rest is history.hence my new hobby has taken over my house. love your videos.its a breath of fresh air for me when I can't get out. thanks a bunch

Blowing rocks is the BEST place to snorkel around here - saw a sea turtle who was nearly the size of me (I’m short but still) it was simply majestic. I just hovered over her for so long and floated out to sea with her until she took a breath. Lots of olives here often. Another great snorkel spot is peanut island (west palm beach) off of blue heron blvd.

Hello from across the pond! I've seen really neat videos of the mudlarking that goes on over there! I'm lucky to live where I do; so close to so many amazing beaches with really neat things to explore. Yesterday we found a little lizard on the beach - very far away from any fresh water (poor little guy). My husband let him hitchhike for about a mile and we gave him some fresh water and let him be on his way. We named him and everything! He'll show up in a video in a few weeks. We love the little critters as much as we do the shells! Thank you for watching my video!

I think you picked a great beach. My husband and I frequent John D MacArthur state park. It’s a beautiful beach. Similar to Bowmans beach where you have a long walk over a boardwalk over water to get to the beach. I have found a lot of beach glass there. That’s where I found the scotch bonnets I have. It’s always hit and miss though as you know. 🤗🐚🐚🐚🐚

BESIDES the obvious beautiful shells in general but my favorite is the beautiful puprle "wampum" (wampanoag native currency in olden days) but we also have sharks teeth, petrified clams, and a place called marble beach... thing about these places is i DOUBT youd find them ever anywhere on list of beaches to visit but so beautiful and fun!!! I actually have never been shelling outside of Florida. I didn't know these amazing things existed! I would visit the beach in NJ and that's why we moved to the area we did here in FL, but once I started combing the beaches over here I was hooked! I will likely not travel that far to go beach combing, however I have enjoyed some videos for both Plum Island Sea Cabin and Solace in Shelling - they are located in the NE of the US, so they tend to find the same type of things you're mentioning. I'm new to shelling, and a new subsciber to your channel. I L.O.V. E your channel! Thank you so much for taking the time to make these videos! I am still trying to identify the difference between a serif and a auger, a bay scallop and a calico scallop, etc. Do any of your videos explain these shells that are so much alike but how to tell the difference? Thanks again for the amazing videos! My 7 year old is already loving to identify shells after watching your videos;)

I do periodically show the different between two similar shells if I've gotten some recent questions about them. This video is from quite a while ago, but eventually you'll find the videos that have those comparisons but I'll make a note to show these in the future!

Follow up: I went to this beach two days in a row and all I can say is WOW!! So many shells. Olives galore, calico scallops, lightening welks, clams, limpets, chestnut turbans, wentletraps, worm shells, ceriths, slippers, cowries, moonsnails, scotch bonnets and others. I had more luck and better shelling than at Captiva. Thank you again for the tip!

How do the shells develop their color and shape? Also another of your videos you shared seed pods for shells? How do the critters repair themselves?
@SWFBeachLife
@SWFBeachLife 3 жыл бұрын
Snails are like other critters and get their color and shape from their parents. Most shells start from eggs and they become just a little bit bigger and stronger each day. Snails repair their shells by continuing to grow around any breaks or cracks they may suffer. You can tell by the lines in the shells. It's like they glue their own shells back together, but they are building more shell instead of using glue.

@SWFBeachLife
@SWFBeachLife 2 жыл бұрын
Yay! Make sure you use rubber gloves and a mask - you DO NOT want to breathe in any of that lingering air. It's 1 part acid to 3 parts water - so depending on how much you want to make, just use that formula. And you always add the acid to the water. It's so fun! Be careful and I hope you have fantastic, gorgeous shells when you're done!

Some shells are formed right in the egg casing that the mama shell lays so they start out their life as itty, bitty snails. Others will float around a while until they get big enough to sink to the sea floor and start to grow their shells. I have collected a few egg casings and I'll open them up in a future video. Now the things inside the sand dollar are Aristotles lantern. They are basically teeth if you can believe it. I showed them and the legend in a pervious video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bHa6fH6eicysrKc
