FSU and Clemson - as the premier football powers in the conference - have landed a fatal blow on the ACC. No matter what ends up transpiring with the litigations (and how long they take), it’s safe to say both will end up in the P2 and remain competitive power programs going forward. On a related note, it is sad to watch the “Tobacco Road” heritage diminish before our very eyes. It’s truly one of the more unfortunate casualties of the evolving college football power structure. The harsh truth is that basketball and other revenue sports do not match the remarkable and ever-growing value of college football. Programs like UNC, Duke, Kansas and others will in all likelihood take on tier 2 status in the evolving P2 framework. While the P2 may end up accommodating some of these programs, they will only serve as chum to the alphas in both the SEC and B1G. What remains to be seen is how basketball and other sports fare within the coming landscape. The internal struggles and financial problems in Chapel Hill make this all the more evident.

Cut some non revenue sports. A lot of them, tell the rams club their main job is to buy athletes for football first then basketball, split revenue 50 50. And get your ass to the sec asap. Can I be ad now?

Being a top D-Cup competitor is part of the UNC brand. Retaining that status is one of the primary reasons to move.

The interesting thing is the motivation of the lawyer who filed the motion that resulted in the court order. Certainly this has nothing to do with principle. He wanted to force the discussion into the light so that certain decisions would become orders of magnitude more difficult. Like cutting non-revenue sports? Maybe he has a kid with a scholarship in a vulnerable non-revenue sport?

It is more like UNC Chapel is letting FSU and Clemson spend all the money on legal fees, as there is no point for them to spend money that they don't have to. If FSU\Clemson win, they have provide a path for UNC Chapel to leave the conference at no cost in legal fees. To me they are playing it smart.

John they'll all end up in the Big 12 anyway. I'm in the Big 10. The full members currently make $61 million. How is adding any ACC team adding value? If any FSU fanboys are in the comment section ask yourself this: if Ohio State has a Florida recruitment pipeline getting everyone from Cris Carter, Chris Gamble, Joey Bosa, Nick Bosa to Jeremiah Smith for FREE without adding FSU, why would the Big 10 feel the need to add FSU?
