The selection committee will select the teams using a process that distinguishes among otherwise comparable teams by considering: Conference championships won, Strength of schedule, Head‐to‐head competition, Comparative outcomes of common opponents (without incenting margin of victory), and, Other relevant factors such as unavailability of key players and coaches that may have affected a team’s performance during the season or likely will affect its postseason performance. They clearly State injuries are factored in. They were given the benefit of the doubt and they looked terrible in the ACC championship game. They did not look like the 4th best team. They got it right. The best part is the ACC turned down expanding the playoffs this year.

@@user-tz2zz5ij1s The CFP as of last week stated FSU was still number 4 despite playing without their starter, Bama was 8 and Texas was 7. After the Conference championship games Georgia went from 1 to 6 despite an amazing year when past years would see them only drop to 4. FSU gave up only 6 points against the number 14 team in the nation while a spot ahead of them just dropped back. Texas beats number 18 and somehow leapfrogs #1 Georgia and #4 FSU who beat a higher ranked opponent. Bama from #8 which has never been done before leapfrog the former #1 and #4. By their own rankings throughout the entire season they decide none of their previous decisions matter and to punish FSU who can play great defense because their offense isn't as attractive anymore despite beating a higher ranked opponent then Texas did and despite being 4 places above Bama while a team ahead of them slid down. It's a slap in the face and a travesty because they set the idea that FSU heading into the ACC championship game is a top 4 team, and their reward for winning with the obstacles and adversity the TEAM had to overcome was to be punished because of an injury to a player.

This was done to put pressure on the ACC. Disney/ESPN/Fox won't be happy until they have completely destroyed college football. But the real reason is that this is just the Alabama Invitational and not a national championship.

It's not really a College Football Championship tournament. It's an invitational tournament. The SEC and Big 10 have automatic spots and the other 2 are up for grabs among the Big 12, Pac 12, ACC and Group of 5 teams. I have no reason to suspect that with 12 teams that they won't continue that kind of format. The SEC and Big 10 will get, once again, at leas half of the field and the other conferences and group of 5 will have to settle for what they can get. Within 2 years we'll all be complaining about at least 1 team that didn't get in but, was deserving.

The 12 team invitational championship currently has a condition for the 4 top spots that get a bye week. If you're in the top 12 and you're a conference champion you will get one of the 4 spots. I'm thinking that they're making the assumption that there will never be a season where all 5 power conferences don't have a conference champion in the top 12, i.e, 5 good teams with a good win loss record that are conference champions. Even worse you could in theory have a team that is ranked in the 12, but had a crappy season and beats a Georgia team in the conference championship that had a better team all season, but had a QB out for the game due to academic suspension or injury. So you end up having a 10-4 Texas A&M in the 4th position with a bye week while the one loss Georgia team has to play the first round against on of the 5-12 teams. No offense to Texas A&M fans. This was just a hypothetical.

He did. Mainly because Alabama was on a collision course with Georgia anyways. If Alabama beat Georgia, which they wound up doing, they'd have the best win of the season entire of all teams. The ACC in 2023 was 6-4 against the SEC and 4-3 against the Big10. The ACC has the most bowl eligible teams than any other conference. It’s inexcusable how their undefeated champion was left out.

People want to get on tv and tell us how bad fsu qb play is at 13-0 all while ignoring the last month of JJ mccarthy of michigan. He has 1 td pass and hasnt thrown for over 150yds. He had 60yds vs penn state, 141 yds 1int vs maryland, 148 yds 1td vs ohio state and 147yds against iowa. Thats an average of less than 125yds per game the last 4 games. Fsu qb play is so bad they dont even get a chance to play in the playoffs while michigan is the #1 team with their qb play. Fsu was ranked 4th beat a top 14 team by 10 points and dropped a spot. Texas ranked 7th played the16th ranked team in oklahoma state won 49-21 and jumped from 7th to 3rd. . The same oklahoma state team that lost to south alabama 33-7 and ucf 45-3. That would be wonderful to see. As a long time 'Noles fan, I hope all the seniors opt out of the Orange Bowl. For this team, even playing Georgia, its a nothing burger bowl. They've already given their all. They didn't have to come back for the '23 season, but they did. This selection was baked in Before Jordan Travis was injured. The way they respond throughout each game, the coaching adjustments, the explosive playmaking of their offensive weapons. And Rhodemaker is no slouch. He had a tough first game against a Rival in the swamp no less, but settled in the second half and made some great plays. ESPN wants to forgive Alabama being one completed pass away from a 2 loss season because it was a rivalry game, but then turns around and says FSU barely beat a trash team in the gators even though we beat them with a backup QB making his first start and winning by two scores. SEC is the greatest! But the almighty Georgia nearly lost to Georgia tech, you know which conference they play for… All about money/viewership friend. The stats and results speak for themselves. SEC went 7-9 vs other P5's, LOL! Florida traveled to another P5 crib for the first time in 30 years and got beat. Not an FSU fan, but I could not be more mad about this. Why should I invest time or concern about a sham built solely to benefit TV money interests? College football has been going this route for a while and this was the nail in the coffin for me. Adding 8 teams to the playoff is a band-aid for a heart attack. This panel and the audience need to ask themselves how they felt about UCF being shut out after its undefeated season. It’s the same freaking issue. The ACC is what it is, and FSU was very aggressive in scheduling. It’s not FSU’s fault that LSU, Florida and Clemson all had down years. But in the end FSU did walk an easier path. Undefeated against a weak schedule vs almost undefeated against a tougher schedule…not an easy call. I would’ve preferred to see FSU in there, but the idea of corruption favoring the SEC just doesn’t hold water.

they system was set up for failure from the beginning only having 4 spots for 5 power conferences. also why is the debate automatically FSU vs Bama. IMO Michigan had no business being #1. their only 2 quality games were Penn St and Ohio St, and their coach was suspended to begin the year for a recruiting issue, then at the end of the year on suspicion of a cheating scandal. and Washington's wins over Oregon x2, Oregon State, Utah and USC are way more impressive, they should've truly been number 1. The committee clearly saw TX W at Bama as the best win of the year because they've been ranked ahead of them the whole time. and as soon as they put TX at 3, they were saying that FSU was never getting in. because had UGA won the SEC the 4 in still would've been 1.Georgia 2.Michigan 3. Do you know how hard it was to watch Louisville , which just lost to Kentucky, and lost to Pitt, be down 3-0 at the half to one of the best 4 teams according to you? FSUs last 2 games were bad, and I am sure with Travis, the scores would have been different. He was and is a great player, probably a Heisman candidate. You can’t lose him and expect to be just as good. Also stop with the TCU beat Michigan last year. How bad was Michigan. I’ve heard a lot of people say that having Alabama in the playoff will be the better situation even if it’s not what should’ve happened. I don’t know that I agree with that statement. Alabama had its fair share of close calls with Arkansas, South Florida, and Auburn. Sure Florida State doesn’t have it starting quarterback. But there back up could possibly still play. The thing is no one can say for sure. So instead they picked an undeserving team over a deserving team.

The four CFP teams are all in or about to be in, the SEC and Big10. The decision of those two conferences to completely buy college football and the CFP has come to fruition. CFP has become Figure Skating as they now use style points to grade the teams.

It’s about Revenue.There is an unwritten rule that the SEC will have at least one team in the playoffs every season. This narrative that the SEC is so superior to the other power five conferences is hype. They were 4-6 in inter conference play against the ACC. Those are not numbers that show SEC dominance. The whole reason the bylaws are written as they are is to assure that the the bowls bring in the most money possible. Deserving to be in and earning your spot have nothing to do with it. The committee is allowed to chose based on what is “best” for the bottom line. Fl State won all there games this season despite losing there top 2 QBs that should have guaranteed a spot for them in the playoffs. The committee used the fact that FSU was not dominant in their victory over # 14 Louisville but did not seem to have an issue with Alabama having to pull out their win against un ranked Auburn two weeks ago with a last second Hail Mary pass fully healthy. Stop trying to justify FSU being snubbed because you can’t. Just admit it was about money and that FSU got screwed and we can move on.

This does not bode well for the Big 12 or the ACC since the difference between the level of play in those conferences compared to the Big 10 and SEC is just widening. The big 12 just lost its best two teams of all time. The ACC has not lost teams but they will. And since the SEC and ACC are gaining more blue bloods the ACC is looking much weaker. Even when the CFP geos to 12 almost all teams will be from the best conferences, SEC and Big Ten.

Seems to justify the need to expand the playoff. I really like what the FCS does with the number of teams. I'd get rid of many of the garbage bowl games. Top 24 teams make the playoffs end of discussion. That would put Tennessee out, and with four losses they have no room to argue with jumping JMU or Tulane and the voters saw both OSU's as being better than them.

I am mindful that ESPN owns the SEC's media rights and pays CFP committee members and the NCAA hundreds of millions to show the playoff game. ESPN would gain a lot from Alabama over FSU regarding viewership and coverage. But up until this past Sunday, I considered the idea that they fixed the rankings or gave the committee instructions to be somewhat of a fringe conspiracy theory. I'm now on the Danny Kennel crazy side after what happened to FSU. It appears that everything is set up to allow the SEC access. The requirements appear to be intentionally vague, changing yearly according to which prestigious universities might be accepted.
