Why would the committee put in a team that cannot beat either of the top 2? Don't be fooled into thinking money and ratings don't factor in to their decisions. There's just no public interest in a match-up that puts a team with no offense against a team that can beat them by 30 or more points and that's a purely business decision. The College football playoffs should’ve never been expanded to just four teams. There are five power five conferences so it should have been 6 team playoff #1 & #2 get a bye week while the bottom four play to get into the semi finals, we would’ve never been having these issues but unfortunately these old people of college football mines didn’t think that through very good.

The committee’s decision did not have to be so complicated. You had three teams 13-0 and conference champions….all three of those including FSU should be in. Then you have three teams with one loss - Texas, Alabama, Georgia. Texas and Alabama won their conferences, Georgia did not, so Georgia is out. Texas beat Alabama head to head. So Texas gets the final spot and Florida State is in as an undefeated conference champion. The correct decision was right there in plain sight and the committee botched it.

The 12-team playoff format couldn't have come sooner. I honestly have a problem with fans saying that the strength of any given conference is all that. If the SEC was indeed all that, then Alabama and Georgia wouldn't run the table year-in and year-out going undefeated almost every year in the so-called mighty SEC. It's simple, the SEC and the BIG-10 get all the exposure and hype. Fans will pretend that FSU didn't recently beat UF, an SEC team. And FSU beat LSU, a so-called better than average SEC teams. So-called experts act as if the SEC as a conference is all that. UGA and Alabama are laughing behind the scenes because most of the time they cream their competition in the SEC. Same with Michigan and OSU, what teams recently in the overrated BIG 10 competed with OSU and Michigan. In the end, it's all about money. And that's why Texas and Oklahoma, Texas' lap dog are joining the SEC.

It is an injustice to FSU do you know how hard it is to go undefeated? I don’t know Florida states history, but I do know Ohio State history. In Ohio states 133 years they’ve had 10 undefeated seasons & 6 of them were perfect seasons with no loses or ties that includes the bowl games. Alabama’s in 131 years had 12 undefeated seasons & 10 of them were perfect seasons & Georgia in 131 years also, has had 4 undefeated seasons & 3 of them were perfect seasons. That’s how hard it is to go undefeated and I’m sure Florida states somewhere in that same boat along with Bama Georgia Ohio State & with all the elite top teams in history. It’s hard and to screw them out of being in the playoffs with an undefeated season is ridiculous. Go back to the BCS computers get rid of humans & their bias for their conference at least most people will be ok with Computer rankings if it comes down to them slightly not getting in because they’ll know there was no bias involved with the computer.

I'm not a fan of either team but this just feels very wrong. And the FSU backup QB would be ready by Jan 1. Bama jumping ahead of FSU is basically saying 1. Go ahead and schedule TWO games vs FCS to guarantee 2 blowout wins, 2. Needing a lucky giveaway and hail Mary pass to barely escape an unranked Auburn team is a quality win, miracle wins are better than dominant wins, 3. Losing once AT HOME in your SEC season is better than going undefeated in ACC, 4. Losing at HOME by double digits is ok, as long as it's to a team that is also in the final four, losing at home used to be equivalent to two loses, unless your a SEC team, 5. If your starting QB gets injured, don't even bother playing the rest of your schedule, you're not getting into the CFP even if you finish undefeated 13-0.

Ever since Auburn was the odd undefeated team not considered from the old BCS system back in 2004 when USC and OU were selected to play the championship game, the powers to be to date will not allow an SEC champion be omitted from the CFP. The computers don't determine this opinion, most human opinions believe the SEC is the most competitive conference in all of college football and the Big 10 is second.

When you have over 150 teams in several conferences, this happens. What if Alabama played 12 high school level teams every year? They would have won every National chamionship in history. The simple fact is that its not about winning, its about who you win against. Alabama had the toughest strength of schedule of any of the top 5. They had to break bones and bleed to get here. Other teams play a schedule of teams that couldnt compete in some high school leagues. The CFP isnt a giveaway to teams who play in crap conferences. Its for the best teams un the nation.

The ACC should sit out all bowl games this year as a giant FU to the NCAA. Sadly, that means millions of dollars to the schools missed out on, but I think the message sent would be worth it. I saw an article last week where one of the power 5 athletic directors is predicting that in another 5 years the NCAA will no longer be the governing body for college football. It all has to do with a lawsuit by former players who believe they are owed millions now that the NIL has become a thing. He said revenue sharing is going to be a reality and that means taking control of the money away from the NCAA.

What is the point of going undefeated in a P5 conference if you are going to be ranked behind a 1-loss Bama team? And by the way, SOS is actual bullshit. It's based on the rankings, which ALWAYS prop up the SEC to be higher than they actually are. I mean, you really thing that Bama played a harder schedule than FSU? Bama played 3 cupcakes and their 1 OOC game was at home and they got beat handily. FSU played their conference (like Bama did), and played 2 SEC teams on the road, and handily won both. The only metric difference is a subjective belief that SEC teams are leagues better than ACC teams, and yet such a belief doesn't hold water when you look at their records against each other this year. The ACC went 6-4 against the SEC. To me, that tells me that the ACC is better than the SEC *THIS* year. It sucks, but the SEC should have been left out this year by the simple fact that 3 of the other conferences had undefeated teams, and 1 conference had a team (Texas) that beat the top SEC team on the road.

This was not the same team that won 13 games in a row this season. And before you say this is just an excuse, the reality is that bowl games have no longer become a representation of the best of a team because too many players opt out to transfer or declare for the draft. Just look at the A&M and UNC games. Both teams were playing mostly if not completely with second and third stringers (in the case of A&M, they had less than a handful of starters on the field with a 3rd and later 4th String QB at the helm). And in both games, the quality of those teams severely diminished. The Orange Bowl was sadly no different than those bowl games.

FSU got screwed. Not fair for the players. Would have FSU got thumped by Michigan? Yes, no doubt. But sometimes in playoffs that’s the match up, the number one seed against a team that has no chance. That’s the benefit you get for being the number one seed.

FSU got shafted and I am a BIG TEN guy. Washington had a case maybe to be #1. Texas should have been #4 behind FSU.

Bryant McFadden is correct. SEC, this year, was not the SEC from the past. Alabama would probably beat FSU as would Georgia, Texas, Washington, and Michigan but FSU still got robbed of the opportunity to compete. I probably would have had: Michigan (1) vs Texas (4) Washington (2) vs FSU (3) I think Texas would have beaten Michigan and Washington would have beaten FSU and that would put Texas vs Washington in the finals. As it is now, I think Alabama beats Michigan and Texas beats Washington and Texas vs Alabama rematch in the finals which would have the better ratings.

That just means .500 teams. Their schedule strength wasnt good and the committee is allowed to factor in strength at time.of selection, including injuries. I dont like it though. 12 team playoff will at least get it settled on the field for the best teams

FSU and Bama both played LSU, and common opponents is something the Committee is supposed to look at if teams are comparable. Apparently they weren't comparable when they got to that point, and that somehow went in Alabama's favor??

@@nathanstruble2177 alabama didn't need more of FSU's common opponents or they'd be out too. bama's SOS was top 5 I believe and they beat the #1 team in the country on the last day of the season.
