Growing up on the North Fork of Long Island , NY , the older locals would sew jingle shells to fish netting , for summer curtains , As the breeze blew through , the shells were tossed together and JINGLED ...a very nostalgic summer sound ! Thanks for bringing us along !

I remember the circular ones that the jingles would spiral their way down from top to bottom. I feel like the jingles were bigger and more circular. I should find one of those at a shell shop and try to figure out if they are really jingle shells!

@@SWFBeachLife I tried to send a reply...not sure it arrived , The shells you spoke of - large , flat ones in shell shop windchimes , etc. , are Capiz shells . They are also referred to as Windowpane Oysters (Placuna placenta) , mostly from the Philippines , and another favorite of mine . Our Jingle Shells are listed as Anomia simplex . Dear Sharmon, To be honest, I thought you would only find a few jingles, and that would be it. But I'm surprised how much you did find in the end. OK, you had to walk to the end of the peninsula, but you did amazing! I thought I saw a sand dollar when you picked up that large broken Lighting Whelk. But I'm probably wrong. I can't believe that people wade through such deep water with all their stuff to reach the beach. I would walk around and have my clothes still dry. 😅 I'm so happy that tropical storm Debby didn't hit Fort Meyers. You've had enough!❤ My dear friend, I hope you have a wonderful week, filled with great shelling, beautiful weather, lots of joy, and great health! Big hug and lots of love, xoxo ❤, Ilona

Yes, I'm not a fan of walking through that lagoon either! That was only I think the second time I've done it. The first time lighting was coming and this time I did want to shave a few minutes off my walk. I'm glad the point (end) of the island was seaweed free so I could find some treasures. It's odd for me to cover so much beach so quickly. I'm normally creeping along looking for treasures! I hope you too have a week filled with sunshine and love! 🌴🌊🐚❤️

I went on my first shelling trip to 10k islands about 3 weeks ago on my way to Key West. It was amazing and overwhelming. I found over 50 Florida Fighting Conchs. After spending a week in Key West, I wanted to go to Tigertail Beach and do a little more shelling on Marco Island before heading home to Georgia. Unfortunately, it was a washout and headed up to Sarasota to stay with a friend before heading home. She landscaped her home and around her pool with beautiful old shells. I enjoyed watching this video...I will make it to TTB one of these days.

Hello Sharmon! Thanks for a beautiful day at the beach you shared. From your summer haul today, I loved best the many colored calico scallops, the beautiful jingles, the beach bowls (of course) and what really captured my attention was that egg cockle. It is so unusual and cool. I'd love to have one, but I have never seen one at a shell shop. Out west here, I find that there are quite a few nice and colorful cockles. Some are quite colorful when wet. My favs are the blue ones. I was wondering if the jingles are the shells they use to make those long lovely wind chimes you find in beachy kinds of shops? I've been praying for your safety with Hurricane Debby and I hope she pushes some great shells your way. Have a great week!
@SWFBeachLife3 ай бұрын
I remember those beach wind chimes! The jingles I find are much smaller than the larger, half-dollar sized discs I remember seeing as a kid dangling from those beachy wind chimes. The painted egg cockle is a very beautiful shell too. I do not find them very often, but when the colors are pronounced, the shells are so beautiful. It still amazes me that snails make these gorgeous pieces of art!

As far as I know, in time washed up coral (and in some cases sea shells as well) break up into tiny pieces and become a major component of the sands on many beaches. Supposedly theres a measurable difference in beaches where people take too many shells/coral fragments and it messes with the sand.

I just found out today that our place we stayed at Marco last time tripled in price which I cannot afford so do you have any suggestions for Ft Myers. It's just myself and my daughter so dont need anything fancy. We spend our entire time on the beaches shelling. Just need a room for sleep and a shower. I have stayed in Cape Coral but it's so far from Marco in the traffic. We want to be there Jan, Feb or Mar 2025. If you know of any particular places that are clean, nice and affordable your suggestions would be greatly appreciated. You have a great week. I always love my Sunday night beach time with you!😊
