Instead of a chest, you should get a book shelf to put in that space. That or a bench

We're looking at benches for that spot as well! I would also love to put some sort of book area in the space since it feels like a great "book nook" to read in ☺

That chest would've been called a "Hope Chest" and they are made out of cedar wood. Hence the price tag. Usually passed down as family heirlooms. To be honest, that was a cheap price compared to what they cost otherwise.
