This year by following alot of what i have learned from you I have got my prices raised. I still have a old riding mower but believe soon I will be able to upgrade to a zero turn. The yards taking me 15 minutes with it get $40 and getting people who even though I gave a different price won't let me mow for less than $100. I am growing now to and might actually end up being successful at this.

keep the rider eventually you might want to tow a trailer on the jobs and the rider will tow double the amount of zero turn. If you don't have to do a bunch of tight turns I would keep the rider or look for a good walk behind you can add a sulky to make it a ride on for half the price

We do a lot of overgrown properties/ abandoned and some have trampolines. We take the trampoline (fabric) not sure what you call it and use them! Free and the metal clips attached hold up pretty good when using a mower to pull them onto the trailer. Food for thought :)

I've been messing with different methods of pricing. Currently for residential pricing the following seems to line up with my profit and expenses needed. I will do a $35 charge + (1.5-2.0 depending on difficulty of terrain and trimming needed) X (sqft/1000) A 10000 sqft lot comes to 50-55 depending on what multiplier you use. .45 is the absolute minimum in my area, south of town from me is at $50. People seem to respond well to it.

Great info for a newbie. Might also help to explain how you choose your hourly rate. I use an overhead calculator that breaks down my costs to each workable minute of the day, from there I just add the profit I want to make.

I set my hrly rate based as high as market allows until we stop closing a substantial portion of sales/estimates. I would suggest any service provider to keep pushing the rate up and up until you meet substantial resistance... that's where we should be sitting. Good comment.

No dump trailer. That was my 2nd investment after my 2016 F 150 XLT Sport. 5x10 Delco dump trailer with scissor lift. Up to 5000 lbs. 💪

Services with many variables are tough to price. But you can always be profitable if you create more demand. People will pay more for a guy or company they like. If you're bidding against other companies or rando guys with a van and a push mower, you're a commodity. Getting referrals helps avoid bidding. This is for residential mainly - as commercial properties, you usually have to bid on larger properites.

Good stuff Brother, we still have our MHR. However, we changed this year to a package based to cover about 90% of all things and I think it should work based on some pre-loading payments and possibly save folks money from sticker shock. I.e. basic, standard, and Premium packages. Each incorporates certain services that we do (a la carte) as a monthly price vs oh it's 25 a mow then asked to do a leaf cleanup and shock them to a 600 ticket. They now choose a package to pay that amount and that's included in off-season visits without a 1-time show and charge. Now if they don't choose that particular package with incorporated services then (a la carte) it is

Last thing too, Some homeowners don't understand that either, they see you give them a $45pmh rate and you're in and out in 10 minutes they think that it's over-priced and they are overpaying. Matter of fact had a new lead yesterday try to tell me well 50 per cut is too much when you are going to be in and out in less than 15 minutes with that fancy zero-turn with edging, trimming, and blowing. Failure to realize yes 15 mins with another technician trimming, and edging at the same time is called efficiency then blowing everything off and on to the next. I won't explain that to them either I say yes I understand but that is our minimum price regardless and yes we are efficient with how we do things. I will have this estimate to you by COB and will also include some optional items that will not have any effects on the subtotal unless you check the box. Have a blessed day and gone

Good video. the Dewalt 20v hand pruner is golden for crepes. it can prune up to 1.5" diameter. A ratchet strap or rope is good to bundle crepe limbs too. Timing helps for future jobs for sure.

Depending on the location, some cities will pick up the clippings/limbs. not where I live, so I tell the client there will be an added disposal fee if they would like me to take it off. The time it takes to drive and also pay the fee to dump it. also, where I live there are a lot of private communities that require, I pay a gate pass. Rich people LOL

I am lucky to get $60 per man hour in my area. People expect something for nothing but too lazy to do it themselves. They complain that they don't get paid enough, so they don't want to pay anyone else anything. I have found this true for tree service, lawn mowing, and landscaping. I no longer do tree service but I find it interesting when a couple makes in excess of 120k annually and complains about a tree service quoting $700 to remove a 90 ft pine 15 ft from their house. And a neighbor thinks a quote for $2200 to remove two 90 ft that are 20 ft from their house leaning toward the house is too high. I told both of them I didn't show up for less than $800 because I lost money if I charged $600 because of the cost of running and maintaining the equipment. Neither one had their trees removed.

This spring I printed a similar for yo your but per minute. So I got every customer on $ per minute. Example: my hourly rate is $120, is $2 per .minute (my benchmark). Client takes 30 minutes and i charges $50= $1.66 so I need to increase the price by $10 One thing we never get back is time so need to make it right!

Supply and demand curve is harsh. Sometimes better to take a little less but have a few more customers. You need to allow for some customers to stop using you over time, so if you raise the prices and go from 10 to 3 customers, you are now in a tricky situation if one of the higher paying customers leave, because you have no backup. If you take slightly less, but have 10 customers, then if 1 leaves, you still have 9, and are also more competitive to find another customer. @@uliperezsatx

Honestly we mow in the same neighborhoods, and all the neighborhoods are the same sq footage. I'm able to give a price over the phone without even referencing the chart, because 99% of the homes fall within 5500 sq ft. That chart is valuable however when you are starting out to understand how to price different services.

Get canvas trap and flex all the whole tarp satuate the canvas. It will last for years. I have two. I did this to my tarps. I did this 6 years ago. No signs of wear after dragging over iron clay soil.

nice video , In my opinion shouldnt we be charging for the "time " it takes to go to the dump? and that be included with the total time , obviously in the vide it wasnt much brush to get rid of . But depending where youre at it could take another 1hr 20 mins of driving plus gas plus the brush site fee Ive personally usually charged per project , sometimes it works out for me some times it doesnt . So im trying to find a nice mix inbetween of what to charge . I also only have one guy as a helper so i guess it makes more sense to charge how i do for me

If you're charging by the project then it is actually easier to factor in the dumping cost. One way would be to factor your desired hourly rate for the work, then determine how much fuel it would cost you to drive to and FROM the dump site, plus 10%, and see what it works out at. If you get charged per visit to the dump site and you can get a couple of projects worth of waste stored, you instant profit by going once every two or three jobs instead of every job. You also become time efficient.

I do not factor drive time with this calculation. the reason is because you have to first make sure each job is profitable on its own regardless of drive time. one you know for sure each job is profitable on its own, then you can look at reducing non-billable hours such as drive time.

Great explanation on Excel. BUT I think you skipped a very important factor, travel time to and from the shop. This oversight could kill you on payroll. If you’re paying your guys from the time they show up to work until they go home you have to add that travel time onto the bill. I can’t see how you could possibly eat that cost.

It's all in the "per man hour" price. It's not literally the price you take home as pay, but includes all base costs (that need to be calculated seperately). Example: you estimate most work will require 3 hours of driving (total) to get to/from and maybe some driving while you're there, so what does 3 hours of driving cost? Not the time, but fuel and maintenance? Let's say a bad MPG figure for your vehicle is 15 MPG. You drive highways to get to most customers at 60 MPH, so that is 180 miles and 12 gallons of fuel. It costs $500 to service your vehicle on a schedule of 5000 miles, so that is 10 cents/mile. It costs you $50 to fill your mower. Your fixed cost just to get to a job is $18 + $48 + $50 = $116 and you didn't even do anything yet.
