Cleaner overall than Europeans despite the flub on the loop, this program moved Robin from 4th to the podium for the first time at Worlds plus first place in the long program

the slow section in this program makes one see how simple basic lines and movements can be so effective... today so many skaters have way too much choreography jam packed into their programs and are always rushing to keep up with the timing!

He had been ill during '78 Worlds. I seem to remember he had a stomach bug or maybe food poisoning but I remember that for days he was throwing up and eating very little and as a result he was a bit weaker so maybe he ran out out steam a bit towards the end of the programme.

That was 1980, Lake Placid Olympics. Loads of people were caught by it and it was due to the catering.

@@therionknight8015 No I've actually hunted it out from my old Ice & Roller Skate Magazines - April 1978 edition (remember those back in the 1970's?) - there was a welcome banquet and Robin, who has a very sweet tooth had two helpings of gateau, but the cream that went with the gateau to pour over it had gone off - Jayne Torvill actually smelled the cream and decided to give it a miss - but Robin had some and as a consequence he became ill. He missed the bug at Lake Placid and went on to win there.
