New Test track is Fire. Brane X is Quad Major Go!! Been loving mine. I picked one up at the Brane X Austin store and they got that speaker naked and that carbon fiber subwoofer is basically that entire speaker’s bottom and its built like a tank and the 3-way speaker setup is super nice. It’s awesome not just for the bass but being a 3 way speaker with that carbon fiber subwoofer, mids and tweeter makes all the difference in the overall sound quality especially over WiFi you can hear the difference. It gets loud too and outdoors enjoying the pool overlooking the views projects shocking well outside for a small speaker. It does not loose any volume or bass when unplugged. Sounds good with all kinds of music. Bass Plays down in the 20s hz ranges, most wireless speakers rated for 40hz. If you play some Bass test tracks or songs in a room you will feel stuff shake and it’s clean bass from this shockingly small speaker. Out of my 10 other portable Bluetooth/wifi speakers this one leans towards the audiophile side in comparison for what it is a small speaker pretty Amazing. Excellent speaker for the collection. Brane make a bigger one that would be an insane Cinco Go and have it Flossy Carter Cinco-Go-Certified.!

It's fairly simple to understand. The smaller the box it's in, the more power you have to apply to a speaker driver to get the same level of low frequency bass. Brane-X's unique speaker driver design removes this limitation, so it can produce more low frequency bass at the same power level in a small box. And yes, in the video it's definitely noticeable. However, at closer to max volume settings, the SPL is basically determined by the speaker driver's linear "throw", so it's not surprising the difference reduces a bit at higher volume.

I have this and a Harmon Kardon onyx studio 5, but I somehow prefer the studio 5. It has a similar low bass with less boomy mid bass, and just sounds crisper in the treble to me than the Brane. The Harman Kardon sounds better to me for a fraction of the price. Not sure if there’s a problem with my Brane X after seeing this.

Great review, Floss! As a Devialet Mania owner I'd like to see you compare these two speakers in a sound test death match. A pros and cons for each and which you'd recommend. The price on the Brane would be tempting if I was in the market for another speaker. The Devialet price was hard to pay. If someone had neither what would justify the premium price difference between these two? It'd be great to hear an in depth take from you.
