Great to see one of these iconic Buffalo Creek Flour boxcars being preserved. Whenever I'd ride a rail excursion train back in the 1960s and '70s, I'd always be on the lookout for a BCK car. Usually about every yard we'd pass through in the MD/PA area would have at least one on a yard track in transit. When HO models of the cars became available I got one right away.

Thank you for your feedback! Yeah, it's funny how long these things lasted, some into 1981-82! Besides those WAG Sole Leather Line wood box cars, I don't think anything as old and obscure lasted as long. Please check out the FBRLP Facebook page for updates on our restoration of this car as well as our efforts to acquire and preserve Buffalo Creek bicentennial locomotive number 46. great story. Most of these boxcars were painted boxcar red. This looks a lot like some Lehigh valley/pc green ? or is that just what is left of the primer ? nice video !

Hey there! So the original order of Pullman cars, of which this is a part, were painted a color called Erie mineral Brown, no doubt in part that the Buffalo Creek was owned half by the Erie and half by the Lehigh and that the Erie placed a PS-1 order at the same time. If you look at pictures of Erie box cars, you'll note that the same style/face of lettering is used for every bit of the car data between the Erie cars and the BCK cars. It does seem that subsequent BCK boxcar orders and perhaps when the cars were repainted resulted in a much richer red; You could probably identify it as you did correctly as boxcar red. We found the mineral red brown color on the interior side of the car sides, and we found the more boxcar red color when we removed the ACI tag. Both of which are nice fines as we try to determine a 100% accurate color to repaint the car. And I forgot to add regarding the gray; this was the standard maintenance of whey color that Conrail painted all of their company use equipment in.
