As part of an independent study for Wofford College Interim we took to the Appalachian Trail (in the dead of winter) seeking to discover the depths of it's history and culture. What we found exceeded even that. Somehow the brutality of the winter wilderness was overshadowed by numerous counts of serendipitous grace, and we will never be the same because of it. In this film, interviews with Jennifer Pharr Davis, Brian King, Kip Redick, Laurie Potteiger and others shed light on the complexity of the history and culture of the AT. Furthermore, our journey is a true testament to the indescribable power of "The Trail".
Hope you enjoy!

I've been watching quite a few documentaries on the A.T.. By far you'rs is great. You show the true roots of the trail. I respect everyone that sets foot on the A.T., but you guys were so isolated I got to see a different side of the trail. I',m planning a short hike in the near future. I have to experience it with my own eyes and body. Besides the thank you, I'm a student at Converse! Cuddos to the Wofford Students! Thank you for enduring the extreme weather to shoot this doc. I hope you all thru-hike one day!

Excellent video. As a father of a son through hiking the trail right now, it was very interesting to get all of your insights of your time on the trail and the people you met. As I watched your video, my son is somewhere between Daleville and Harpers Ferry, so I liked seeing what he is or will be seeing. Thanks for putting it together. Go Terriers!

PRO TIP!!! if you know its going to be under 10 degrees for a long period of time, just stay indoors, at least so far as the AT is concerned, there are hikes that people do where those are just average conditions and you come prepared for them, the AT is meant to be hiked spring-fall, you three did not have sub zero accommodations and it was foolish of you to stay ontop of a mountain in an open-face wooden shack, in virginia cold snaps like that only happen like that in the dead of winter, and if they aren't in the coldest part of winter then they will be over very quickly, guess y'all figured that out tho

Sam Wallace While I agree sub-zero weather is not the best time to be hiking the AT, I do not agree the Trail is meant to be hiked during certain seasons. As long as a hiker is geared out properly for winter he should go for it. Like they say, "Hike your own hike".

Yeah, I have to disagree too. I got to this video because I was specifically searching winter AT hikes. There is gear for almost every condition.
