Honey bees are not getting hurt here directly (👌good) but their life cycle is not completed (what happens to the Queen and Eggs?? 😢) Humans are already killing Honey bees by using harmful fertilizers in farming. Now Honey future generations are targeted here (😢 bad). When Nature is giving us so many things, please think what we are giving back to Nature in return.. I am just amazed at the number of people that are buying into this. The people that would buy something like this are the same kind of people that would get a cute puppy or kitten and then send it to the pound when it grows up and isn't as cute anymore. Keeping bees is not as simple and putting up a hive and turning a valve to get the honey. How many people gushing all over this idea know what the process is to get bees? How many of them know what it takes to get bees from the box they come in, into the hive? How many of them know how much maintenance is necessary INSIDE the hive on a continual basis? How many of them know what "propolize" means and what it does to the frames inside the hive? The people that believe that it will so simple to hold their pancakes under the spout to drizzle honey all over them, have absolutely no clue as to what it takes to maintain a healthy, vibrant hive. And anyone that believes it will be this easy deserves to be separated from their money. A fool and his money are soon parted.

I think you qualify as a fool if you aren't opened minded to new ways (excluding morality). It might be a little narrow-minded to think that everyone purchasing this invention is completely naive to beekeeping requirements, don't you think Dave?
@tagi3d9 жыл бұрын
While it's true people may walk away with a simplified view and should be educated on the complexities you describe, this does not discredit the invention itself. I think it's a fantastic achievement and could make bee-keeping a lot more accessible to the masses.
@mugsyjeff9 жыл бұрын
tagi3d I agree with you as far as the innovation is concerned, it's clever & all that, the crowd funding will certainly be great for them. However the masses need to get their hives to the point where the hives starts producing honey & that's where the challenges lie. Then the brood, the most important part of the hive needs to be maintained, then there's SHB, AFB, EFB, CCD, Veroa, Nosema, Chalk Brood, Swarming. All these things have to be taken into consideration. It's probably important that anyone considering taking on a beehive do a beekeeping course to learn how to properly maintain their hive & how to overcome the myriad of challenges they'll face. Not for the masses.

@ToothedKrux5 жыл бұрын
Apparently it's been produced, but the result is mixed, there are some reports of some bee colonies not wanting to use the flow hives, but some others say it's working pretty well when it works. However some are concerned about the design of these. For one thing, the beeswax is for one another component you usually expect in beekeeping, and filters out impurities of the honey, whereas with the flow hives, you don't get any wax, the honey isn't getting naturally filtered and there are some concerns about the plastic even contaminating the honey through natural degradation. Also some experts feel like this encourages the wrong idea. Bee hives aren't natural barrels of honey that you should always drain, the bees store this honey for rough times, and having an easy way of accessing honey could encourage people to get all the honey they can get, which could cause the downfall of the hive later down the line as it starves to death. Many beekeepers see beekeeping as a hobby with a little bit of side product, whereas this product seems to reflect the opposite, which again, could trick people into getting into beekeeping with the wrong ideas, which again, could cause the downfall of their colonies. So overall, it's a product that works well, but could actually harm the beekeepers in the long run as it encourages greedy behavior and doesn't reflect the patience one has to have to properly care for a bee colony.
@hankitytankity5 жыл бұрын

bee larva would not bee in the super....only queens lay larva in the bottom. So it won't effect the honey we get.
@georgewiebe48628 жыл бұрын
+Marty White - Wrong, from a guy who grew up in a beekeeping family. The queen will usually begin laying eggs in the center frames and work toward the sides if there is available brood space in the outer frames (not full of honey). The way to keep the brood out of the suppers is to confine the queen to lower levels with a queen excluder which is a screen device that the queen is too large to pass through. The frame with shifting cells would not be appropriate where brood is going to be accommodated.

Your bees behave differently depending on the time of year via laying cycle and what activities they do, and as a be keeper you need to manage them and better prepare their hive so the can function year round. Bees deal with pests and diseases and a good bee keeper should be inspecting and maintaining a hive every 7-10 days. The Flow hive just encourages lazy beekeeping and leaves little for the bees.

@@christianotis5918 thanks, it was jus what I wanted to say. Beekeeping is not a game for lazy people, but hard everyday work, especially when you have more than 20 hives.

Another good method is the "bottle to bottle hive" by Advoco makes Essencially bees would be placed in 2 big bottles (like the ones for water dispensers) or custom plastic tubes. Bees naturally fill up the top one first, eventually blocking it completely, leaving it ready and safe for harvest. Then u add a new empty segment on the bottom and cycle continues

So what I want to know: wouldn't your design for movable cells end up crushing any larvae that they might have in them? Is there a way to tell which frames they're using for honey vs. other purposes?
@FlowHive Жыл бұрын
The queen excluder stops the queen from reaching and laying eggs in the super where the Flow frames are - meaning no squished larvae! - Isobella.
@JustAMosca3 жыл бұрын
Pls correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't the larvae die using this method of getting the honey since the queen bee lays the eggs within those cells? I don't know anything about bees btw
@georgeharrisonOK3 жыл бұрын
The queen is excluded in the bottom cage There is a grid that is just the right size to keep the queen from leaving, but allows the worker bees to move. So you have the queen and the eggs in the bottom and just honey in the top

how does flow hive solve the problem of not seeing if all the hives are capped before releasing the honey? the high water content before the bees fan the honey and cap the cell will lead to the honey spoiling. so as a beekeeper it still seems like the hive has to be disturbed to inspect each frame. no brood in honey, and all cells capped. please respond. Regards
@FlowHive9 жыл бұрын
+Aldean Louis Hey Aldean, we do recommend that beekeepers still examine the Flow super to get to know what it looks like on the end view when it is fully capped. After a while you will begin to recognize what it looks like when the frames are capped on the end viewing window where you extract the frames.

Hi Ben, it just occurred to me that sometimes the queen will find a gap in the queen excluder & finish up in the honey super & start laying up there, with this system that could be problematic.

Barklythedog _ Yes I have since read on the effects of the plastic honeycombs and such, but perhaps this can still be modified in ways! After all, if it is causing problems they will have to address it because it is the main reason this was invented, to make it less evasive! And making it more available seems to be helping increase bee population and is expensive and for certain areas so not something tons of people can get their hands on! Also, the plastic issue is debatable as to whether it actually hearts them or not!
