You're so right about this film, it's stunningly beautiful, visually and emotionally. You hit on the key word several times, I think: empathy. I can't think of another film that engages our empathy so fully. It's phenomenal, it's inspiring.

I am just so happy that international animation is finally getting recognized other than Japan. I love anime, however with Flow, The Glassworker, and Memoir Of a Snail, I think that animation is finally hitting its stride. Disney is good Dreamworks can be great. It’s time people learn that good animated movies can come from anywhere

From my point of view, the movie “Flow” is a touching and visually stunning representation of how a cat experiences the devastation of its home due to flooding caused by the construction of a dam. Observing the abandoned houses and the submerged environment, it is easy to imagine that this event, from the cat’s perspective, feels like an apocalypse. The narrative of “Flow” reminds me of the story of Shi Cheng in China, a city submerged underwater to make way for a dam. In both cases, human intervention in nature has drastic consequences for the original inhabitants, whether human or animal. The film poetically captures the confusion and displacement felt by the cat as it navigates a world that has changed irreversibly. Through the cat’s eyes, the flood is not just a physical event but a total transformation of its reality. The images of submerged houses and aquatic landscapes create an atmosphere of desolation and beauty at the same time, highlighting the resilience of nature and the adaptability of living beings

I understood this film as a portrayal of two ways of life - either you leave the world behind, the people behind - even your friends or family...to ascend. Or - if having no choice, because you just are not at that level yet - or choosing "this world" and its people, your family, friends, your life - you can or literally have to choose to stay behind. At that point, the only two things that can keep you from drowning is your life purpose and your friends/close people. The portrayal was black and white... (no pun intended - quite literally it was). You either choose one or the other... and it is a very sad, very scary thing and it makes me wonder if that is all there really is... if there is no other choice. The viewer is meant to empatize with the main character - the cat - who chose to stay behind. Probably not because he did not want to, but because that is who he is, authentically... - he found the value in people around, instead of a solitude life of comfort. And he could not reach a point that the bird could. The bird did not bat an eye to leave everything behind, once it was time... once he could. I don´t know how to feel about this film, bu visually, it definitely was a beautiful movie.

What happen to the bird at the end of the movie? Was it the cause of the flood to die out?
@KraflynАй бұрын
what was the meaning of the gravity collapse scene please? 0o
@PointsofReviewАй бұрын
That scene is inherently subjective, so I don't believe in one "absolute" explanation. To me, though, it's very much a metaphor for "letting go" and not fighting against what the world is trying to show you. Both characters begin to accept various aspects of themselves they were previously fighting against, and as a result, go with the "flow" and are taken where they need to go. Bear in mind, that's just one person's perspective!

@@Kraflyn On one hand it is a pretty obvious death moment on the other the cat searches the artefact for his feathered friend and there is some moment of anti gravity aso. but yet the view also clearly exposig, focussing on the birds broken wing. The bird appears very moody in the end.. the bigger question is, will the water rise again, because when you wait, after the score, you will see the whale back in the water again, the same or another one.
@sansthecomic59027 күн бұрын
I dont know if im stupid or the movie is smart, i didint get most of it. I love cats and animals but it kinda just left me with a buch of questions. What was up with the whale at the end? Why did the water appear and disapear so suddenly? What happened to bird? It was cute and preety, i liked when the creatures united in the end overcoming their problems (greed, toxic freinds, being a capybara) but it felt... empty? Idk it just wasnt very satisfying. I feel like i should like it more but im just left feeling more confused than satisfied. Maybe i just dont understand it, if someone could maybe elaborate as to what i missed that would be great but as far as im concerened its a really, really, REALLY pretty movie that really confuses me. Am i looking to deep? Also i never cried, their was never any moments that made me sad tho i was a lil upset when lemurs mirror was broke. Am i just dumb?
@dprezzz156121 күн бұрын
Well, my understanding is that the flood was caused by another planet getting close. When the bird got pulled away was the planet the closest to the other planetary body. It was a gravity from he other planet that caused everything. Of course this is how I see it, I could be wrong.
@sasqwatch35mm13 күн бұрын
@@dprezzz1561or may be entire movie was just an analogy. Flow means time, and it washes away all living being. And cat wasn’t a cat, it was it’s soul along with souls of other passed animals, travelling on Charon’ boat to post mortem realm. Take a closer look, in the beginning of the movie body of passed cat was quickly shown lying on the shore, these were two or three quick shots, giving just a glimpse of a hint. And movie end loops with the same shot, with the cat looking into the pool of water (like in the beginning) and seeing his reflection as a statue and realizing it actually passed away, that’s why this world is so strange with no people around

I think that it's cycle where a creature of the sea and a creature of the sky are sacrificed to save the world, but it's necessary that a creature of the earth becomes the herald of the creature of the sea, the cat in this case.
