Fun fact: in the book this movie is based on, The True Meaning of Smekday, Oh's earth name is JLo, which is probably why they chose Jennifer Lopez to be part of the film cast. The book is actually a surprisingly good read with plenty of differences to the movie, explanations for some of the boov lore topics the movie leaves out, and lots of cool illustratons. My favorite details are the boov learning English by watching TV and listening to the radio hence their weird names and broken sentence structure, and cats adoring the boov because they smell like fish.

Fun fact: When this video was first posted i was about to go to sleep, so i tried to keep a mental note to watch it once i woke up. This then somehow led my mind to make me dream that i was in the middle of when the boov were invading earth, and despite the fact that i was somehow silently aware that the boov were fictional aliens, and thus also aware of what the invasion would entail, i still feared for my life as i was driving to who knows where. I then somehow ended up entering some kind of facility, which was dilapidated and made out of glass pentagon-shaped tunnels and was built over some kind of forest. Im pretty sure i tried to hide in there, its a bit fuzzy, and then entered a kind of millitary hangar made of wavy-sheet-metal in the facility. i dont remember what was in it or what happened in there, but eventually the thing in there broke open the ceiling, and then i woke up. Keep in mind that i ran into an abandoned facility built over a giant forest to i guess hide from the boov, despite the fact that i never saw a single one of the weird purple guys. Literally the only thing i saw that was related to the boov was their giant ship in the sky. i didnt even see anyone get abducted or anything, i just saw a giant goofy alien tech sphere in the sky and decided that it was time to get in a car i do not own, and drive to the most remote abandoned building i could find. This is not the first time i have had a dream of this oddly elaborate nature, and it probably wont be the last.

A bit of backstory, I don't know why, but this guy like never showed up for school. The rumors stated that his mom let him stay home whenever he wanted, but hindsight tells me there must've been something else going on. It got to the point where if he showed up for a whole week's worth of school, he'd get half of Friday off to do something with the guidance councilor. After this movie came out, he showed up every single day for 3 weeks just so that he could go see Home, of all movies.

Most people don't realize that its based on a book because its not in the trailers and instead its hidden in the end of the credits, and There's a lot of changes between the movie and the book and while the overall story beats are relatively the same. The ending, Locations, People and antics they get into are different Of Similar story beats *Tips mom was still captured * The boov destroyed her car and she meets Oh in an convenience store where he converts it to the flying version *they go together to human land *Tip crying above the ocean and the heart to heart *The boov preparing to leave again after the Gorg show up Of different story beats *They actually go to Florida because its originally the location the Boov gave the humans, but they discover they aren't there because the Boov discovered oranges. * They discover other humans survived relocation in "Happy Mouse Kingdom" in Orlando * They also find the Gorg ships in Florida and attacking a Boov ship *On their way to the actual location, Arizona, they visit Roswell, New Mexico and discover the Gorg are capturing cats, one of the residents betrays tip and pig because they want the Gorg to go away, *You find out they were actually named something else originally from J.Lo (actual name of Oh) and Infighting had only one survive who was named Gorg, which is why the name changed. *Gorg used some technology they created to clone himself repeatedly. *Between Arizona and Roswell It is also discovered the Gorg are incredibly allergic to cats. * Tip mom was taken earlier then everyone else, which is why tip was in hiding, knew of the Boov's existence, and had the car, as she was used to learn how to speak the languages of earth, among others. *how they defeat them, which was they cloned Pig millions of times and teleported them to the Gorg ships, which notably are made of Gorg clones. (not joking their actual skin is the hull), the ships have a visceral reaction and evacuate leaving them all alone. there's a couple of other things of note but those are the biggest changes. although I can see why they might have changed the method of defeat as animating that as well as putting that on the big screen would be kind of disgusting. Definitely read the book as its a lot better then the movie also having watched more of the video, the urinal scene does kind of exists, Oh just comments after tip tells him to use the male bathroom while she's in the female one and he comments afterwards that he enjoyed the cakes inside, which after questioning, tip discovers what he means.

The book was definitely goofy at times. I mean, the big bad was defeated by the cat. A lot of the cat, in fact. The B.O.O.B.S., of which there were two of, one of the groups the name was for, I think it stood for something like "Boys Organized (some synonym for 'against' that starts with O???) Boov(S?)" or something... I could probably just look it up, but it's more fun trying to jog my own memory and work these things out from what I can. Or going to 'totally-not-literally-just-disneyland' in florida. I remember J.Lo finding cleaning supplies as good food. And the fact that O was literally named J.Lo in the first place. There were definitely silly moments, and a generally lighthearted tone, but... It was also taken seriously. The jokes were actually memorable, but, they didn't completely ruin the tone. Okay, now I'm definitely wanting to re-read it. Maybe I should check if my local library has a copy...

The book was fantastic. I am a teacher and I read it with my class before the movie was a thing.
