Ludwig Späth was a german botanist, court gardener and owner of the famous „Späth’sche Baumschule“ in Berlin where alle the royalties used to buy their trees and shrubs. The nursery is still in business and is considered to be the oldest one in Germany.

Your shirt today reminds me: Last summer when I shopped the perennial area of my local nursery I had several people approach me to ask gardening questions. Flattered, I thought “wow, I must have that knowledgeable gardeners face” and answered them as best I could…..until I looked down and saw that I had worn my Garden Answer shirt that day. 😂 What a great conversation starter….not that gardeners need much encouragement to share experiences. Thank you to you and Aaron for every joyful addition to the world wide gardening community. Your channel is a refreshing escape every day! ♥️

So true I shop at Lowe’s quite frequently in the plant department and the manager Lisa in the plant department came up to me the other day and said I have a question for a customer and then she says oh the heck with it go talk to that lady over there for me, please cause I don’t know the answer. I was exceptionally enthusiastic and very smitten at the same time that somebody thought I could actually answer that question thank goodness I could paid for my plants and left ASAP.😂

We have a park near me called Lilacia Park-which is all lilacs and tulip bulbs. It is glorious to visit in the spring when everything is in bloom. The town also is know as “lilac city” and gives a free lilac bush to any citizen who would like one each year. I found myself thinking as you were talking about the space wishing I could time travel 5 years to see the space and then 10 years. It is going to be so beautiful and how fun to fill in a blank canvas with your very own masterpiece!! 🌳 💐🌲 🌺

I had to laugh when you said you “think” you got quite a lot done in the South Garden last year. To accomplish all you did in one year is amazing, especially with a new baby. Love the lilacs 😁 We have the same varieties as well as a white lilac in our garden. They are so tenacious and the rich green leaves provide a nice rest for the eyes once the flowers have withered. But beware of the earwigs. They like them as much as we do. FYI: Ludwig Späth was a German botanist. The common lilac was named after him. The more you know 😂🌈

I have one Lincoln Lilac that was planted on the side of my home when it was built in 1955 , we have cut it back, pruned the branches hanging over our neighbors driveway, my boys climbed it when they were young, the flowers have been used for bouquets, teachers gifts, Easter baskets, birthday flowers, etc ,it is just such a beautiful plant to have for generations ❤️🙏😊

It’s so wonderful to see all the new, green growth - we just picked up a couple inches of new snow here in WI😔 A thought occurred to me when you said the bag of fertilizer broke and you put it in a bucket… it might be easier to fertilize the number of things you do if you put it in a watering can with an open nozzle. That way, you can just walk around and pour. It might give you a bit more control than a bucket. Just a thought. I truly enjoy your videos - thank you!!

I got up this morning and was instantly in a bad mood when I saw someone had run a trailer over my perennial blue salvia(that was JUST coming back), newly planted Icelandic poppy, and one of my grandmother's daylilies I saved. I was fuming all day . I thought "What would Laura do?" So, when I got off work I bought three more Salvias and a flat of cosmos then weeded and cleaned out my flowerbed. I plan to put a container on the end of my driveway and DARE anyone to get near my flowerbed with a tire again. lol Seeing your progress on here gives me ideas and the motivation to get out and do things in my flowerbeds. One day, when you are grandma and Aaron is grandpa, Samantha with her family and Benjamin with his, will come to visit. A long walk will be taken through this magical garden. Their children will run and play while great stories will be told by their grands. Don’t forget to plant a tree or two that swings can be hung from.😊❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

You're my daily inspiration to get out there and get creating, even if I'm watching a video from a few years ago. Thank you Laura! Early morning garden answer and then out into the garden.

I love watching your videos. They are so informative. I had never seen Helabores in my area until seeing them in your videos. Now I am seeing them in the garden center and want to buy them. Keep up the wonderful videos. Thank you so much.

Hapoy Friday! Love these videos of what is to eventually happen for us in Northern MI zone 5B. I am looking at 2 inches of fresh snow on the ground, on my deck -everywhere here. Mother Nature needs to get in coordination with Father Time. The calendar tells us it's Spring. Haha. Have a great day & weekend All!.

Once your garden is more established, do you plan to do tours like P. Allen Smith does with his garden? I love watching you transform the land into something beautiful!

My grandmother said that if you want more acidic soil mix milk and water together to make the soil acidic and if you use the same mixture on pumpkin leaves you can get rid of powdery mildew

Oh my gosh, let the gardening begin. I can't wait to see what you plant this year Laura. You took a blank slate and turned it into a garden masterpiece already, I love it.

Love all the trees shrubs and plants that you are adding to the garden. Your energy and excitement with each planting is such a joy to watch! I was wondering what your plans are for the kids garden 🪴. Are you going to replant it again for Samantha and Benjamin or move it to a new area? It was one of my favorite spots that you made last year...so reminiscent of a Tasha Tudor or Beatrix Potter cottage garden. 🐇🌻🦔
