I really agree with your conclusion. Lomo 400 and Kodak Pro100 are two of my picks too especially for shooting flowers. I think Cinestill 400D is also another favorite of mine. It handles varying light conditions and is very versatile with very good dynamic range and contrast.

I like my flower shots fairly saturated and punchy on color film, but more delicate renderings on black and white. Foma 200 and Delta 400 have given me good results so far. Seeing the Golden Top 5 be all discontinued Fuji films made me realize how many of their past offerings I'll never shoot...

I’m definitely the same for color! I rarely shoot B&W for flowers but I’m sure there can be beautiful gradations that happen on certain film stocks. Which are your favorite color films to shoot for spring? Yeah…I have Fomo around not having experienced a lot of films that are no longer available.

As always, great video and the timing couldn’t be better. My A1 is sitting empty, calling for some film, but I haven’t been able to pick one for the impending spring colors. As someone who comes to KZbin to learn and explore, versus consume film photography culture, your channel is a breath of fresh air. I think it’s one of the best if not the best channel for beginners (me).

Ha well now I have a bit of analysis paralysis. There are three I have in mind, in particular. Portra 800 - I won’t shoot a whole roll of just flowers and portra seems flexible for multiple situations. Also the latitude helps newbs like me. I don’t mind grain, either. Provia 100 - I’ve never shot “real” Fujifilm before (only 200, not C200), despite enjoying their digital camera colors. It seems particularly well suited for the green that comes with spring. Lomo Turquoise - I don’t shoot film for the realism, I shoot it for what the stock imparts on the image. I want to shoot flowers more for practice, not because of any particular visual interest (though they are interesting). Turquoise would just add a layer of fun. Also, I thought your photos looked great with the color shifts.

@@mlittrell11 those a great choices! yeah Fuji on analog just tends to accentuate the greens more which lends itself to great photos of vegetation and flowers vs Kodak leans warmer. Have you shot slide film before? Yeah I feel the same about film too, not really in it for the perfect copy of reality. I want mood, emotion and seeing a new perspective. @@NathanTrimbach I haven't shot slide film yet! I had been considering Ektachrome however I need to see better exposures from shots before I venture into a film stock with less flexibility, I think. From what I know about Ektachrome, at most I have a stop over and maybe 1/3 - 2/3 under in terms of flexibility. I love the punchiness of slide film, though.

Slide is definitely beautiful and has a look that is much different from color negative film. It does have less dynamic range and less forgiving with overexposure in general. Almost the opposite of color negative where you want to protect your highlights more.

I know! I was wondering what all the hype was about. Then I shoot one roll of it and I’m hooked! Why does do all my favorite film stocks have to be discontinued Fuji films? Haha
