Really helpful information and so clearly explained. I’ve been getting damping off but realize now I’m not taking the covers off soon enough… thanks so much for that tip 😊

Hi Trudy, thanks for watching. I’m glad it was helpful. Yes the humidity domes are just there to help with germination and as soon as you see the seedlings appear you can take them off so that you can maximise the light and the ventilation getting to them. It should help with damping off.

Thanks for this lovely video, great info, looking forward to seeing how the seeds get on and your repotting technique! Been cleaning my greenhouse today ready for sowing, had lots of mildew on cucumber leaves last year so want to clear out spores etc. Thanks again! 😊

Thanks so much for watching! Cleaning my greenhouse is on my list of jobs to do as well. It can make such a difference to bugs, mildew and light levels. I need to have a day cleaning my pots, seed trays and flower buckets too x

Useful tips. Having trouble with Hirsutum Roseum germinating and also Echinacea with only one seedling after 3wks. The soil looks wet and have been watering regularly so will let them sry out a bit. Could also be too cold as started them off inside and they're now in a cold frame outside.

Hello Katherine. Thanks so much for watching. Those are both trickier seeds to get germinating and can take a good few weeks. They both benefit from a period of cold stratification before sowing such as a few weeks in the fridge. So it may be that actually they have needed a few weeks outside in the cold frame and if you bring them into the warmth again after that they will germinate for you. They like the soil moist but not too wet. If they don’t show any signs of germinating in another week or so don’t discard the seed tray. Sometimes I’ve found when I have put a seed tray outside thinking nothings happening with it and just left it to its own devices I come back at a later date and there’s seedlings! That happened with my ravenswing seeds I sowed last autumn. Nothing happened then or all winter and then in the spring they started appearing.

Great videos. Just sown some double white cosmos on the windowsill, was terrified they wouldn't germinate for me but they did. In fact, they began to sprout the SAME DAY as sown, I was amazed. As for my cornflowers, which went straight onto raked soil, nothing yet, but I'm keeping fingers crossed they'll germinate with the march sunshine and maybe some potash from the logburner, as the soil is rather acidic.

Thanks for watching. Cosmos are good at germinating aren’t they! Nice big seeds to handle too so you don’t sow too many at once and the flowers are lovely. Your cornflowers should get away soon hopefully as they are normally quick to germinate.
