Can i sow the seed during summer in india?

Hello, thanks so watching. Statice like a period of coolness to grow on after germination if they are going to produce flowers well so it is likely too hot to sow them over the summer in India. They like a temperature of 10c for a few weeks post germination.

Hello, thanks for watching. I think I would do some thinning and take the weaker smaller ones out leaving space between the stronger ones to grow on. Hopefully you well get lots of lovely flowers in the summer.

Stunning ❤. I watch quite a few flower channels, but I have to say your bouquets are always by far the next level. They are like artwork.. Thankyou for sharing 💐

Hello and thanks so much for watching. I am in Scotland, zone 8b and as I don’t overwinter my statice I start them in late winter around February. Would that be around September for you in Australia?

Hello and thanks for watching. If your weather stays warm for a few more months to come then you could sow some seed now. Here is Scotland I have not managed to overwinter statice but I know some people have said they can.

That's a really comprehensive video! Thanks a lot. My Statice plants are still very small in size, about half the size of what you show here, but they already have flower stalks coming up. Will it help the plants grow a bit stronger if I carefully cut those early flower stalks?
@cloudberryflowers-flowerfarm
@cloudberryflowers-flowerfarm 4 ай бұрын
Thanks so much for watching. I would cut those early flower stalks off to get more energy into the plant and promote a bit more growth first before flowering.

Beautiful arrangements and wedding work Catherine. I love making corsages and buttonholes, find it very therapeutic. I’ll definitely try growing statice, one less job not having to pinch out.

Thanks for watching again this week 😊 it is lovely making buttonholes and corsages. Even though I am not doing large weddings at the moment I am looking forward to do doing the odd buttonhole for wedding guests! You definitely should give statice a go for growing!

Great vid thanks Catherine - something I found out by accident this week (after a week of out of the blue cold weather) is that my small statice survived -5c ! Normally overwinters for us no problems but we only get very light frosts and not many of them usually. But yeah -5! And I had only just planted them out so not established and in my panic of trying to get everything else covered they got missed - so no protection at all! Incredible. Also incredible is that I had some mature sunflowers that shook off a -3.5 frost but unfortunately gave way at -5. Rose scented pelargonium also survived -5 uncovered. Very surprising. I also love the light blue statice 💙

Wow that was great to get them through -5! They are perhaps hardier than we think. Although maybe it’s the wet and cold combined in winter they don’t like that means I don’t get them through. Interesting about the sunflowers too. They can obviously cope with a touch of frost but not too much. I so wish I could get my scented pelargoniums through a winter but I haven’t managed yet. I absolutely love them!

@@cloudberryflowers-flowerfarm yes I was very relieved 🙂 I think they might be tougher than we think too but like you say sustaining Scotland cold/rain all winter long might be a bit much - they do cope with our conditions over winter which is rainy but we generally do not get the cold. I actually think Lisa mason Ziegler might over winter them in her zone which is 8a I believe but she also uses a lot of row cover etc too. I love the pelargoniums in early spring bouquets! I grow them out over the season then overwinter large plants and then pair them with tulips and daffodils etc. it’s a shame it doesn’t work for you - do you over winter a mother plant in a pot and then take cuttings? That’s what I do for things that won’t make it and that I want to grow lots more of in the new season, like chrysanthemums. I find it fascinating comparing/contrasting how we all grow in different conditions and what works for each of us 🙂

@catreeves963
@catreeves963 4 ай бұрын
Where abouts in oz are you? We overwinter statice where I live in Nz and it also goes well sowing late winter to plant early spring. The autumn plants are better though - they don’t like wet soggy ground though so that tends to be more of a problem at least in my climate - lots of rain, with generally only a handful of light frosts.

Hi, thanks so much for watching this week. Sounds like it’s possible to get statice through the winter depending on where you live. I think for me the problem would be the wet soil as well as the cold but in milder drier conditions you could be successful. Good luck with the new batches in August/September.
@catreeves963
@catreeves963 4 ай бұрын
@@flowerfairy1950 just did a quick google and looks like you might be in a similar climate to me. As Catherine says it’s the wet they don’t like but if you have good drainage you might like to give it a try! Can always sow another round late winter as an insurance policy. The autumn sown plants are some of the earliest blooming hardy annuals for me - right alongside things like snap dragons so in my opinion it’s worth the gamble 🙂 re the water - water well when planting and then only when the soil is dry- ours last literally all season - so good.

@@catreeves963 Thanks. I will sow another batch. I think in general across the board, over watering my seedlings in the greenhouse is my main problem.
