🎨 Flower Studies in my Sketchbook 🌸

A great sketchbook idea for beginners or anyone trying to get started drawing or painting. I'm using Caran d'Ache Neocolor II water soluble wax pastels to have fun in my sketchbook. I'm drawing different kinds of flowers from reference and from memory. Sketch along with me if you are looking for art motivation to get creating today.

I thought the lily from your reference photo would be a challenge but you did a wonderful job with it! My favorite was the one from the reference photo, I knew exactly what kind of flower it was.

Purple flowers are silver dollars. The seed pod is what will become the “dollar”. I have been inspired by them for couple weeks now. Great job,!

Definitely liked your non-reference page more than the reference page, except the purple flowers. I didn’t do this with you, but I think this is a good exercise one could do with any type of medium to practice. Also, it inherently shows how sometimes details do/don’t matter when creating art-people often don’t understand all the details in the image one is creating anyways…you see this often replicated in cartoon drawings (as an example). Great job!🎉🎉🎉

I do a mix. If I have something inspecific to draw I will look it up then close out or move the references so I can't see them and draw from memory so it ends up being mine and not a copy. Sometimes its pretty cool how similar I can get it others its like not even close then it's back to looking at pictures to see where it went wrong.

I think your from memory page has a better composition? Like the page looks more filled and planned out. I did not draw along, but last night on art hang party with Melissa Martin we drew 3 minute flowers. So I'll have to draw with this video and add to my garden 😊

I agree! My from memory flowers got bigger and filled in the dead space. Flowers are so fun and so many different varieties! I’m not a big flower person, but I love painting and studying them! I’m so glad you’re enjoying them! The first 2 minute sketching video I ever made was using watercolor pencils. I love using water soluble materials for this exercise because you get to really experiment with both drawing and painting. More to come! 😊👍

That’s great! I hope you enjoy learning more watercolor pencil techniques. I was not very good with watercolor pencil at first, but the more I played around with them, the more I really enjoyed using them. They changed the way I sketched and painted.
