I really admire how hard you work, Nicole! I have had my own one-woman business for about 30 years and I don’t have to work as hard now as I did in the beginning. My hope for you is that, before you know it, you’ll be reaping all of the rewards that you so richly deserve! By the way, I live in central Newfoundland (zone 5a) and it’s definitely still winter here but showing signs of Spring! 🥰🤗👍🪴👏

Chemist here... Nicole, I love your vitality and I'm living my dreams through your channel at the moment :) I understand that burning holes is a really fast method and viable outdoor, but I'm concerned for your health since you're doing it in an enclosed environment where there is not great air circulation, and also the fumes can accumulate over time (even if you said working at 15 mins intervals). I don't exactly know which kind of plastic your landscape cloth is made of (from Dewitt website it seems to be polypropylene), but the fumes that developes during combustion of plastics contain toxic and even carcinogenic substances... So, when you're working inside the hoophouse, instead of burning, maybe you could try to melt a hole in the film with a hot object (even if I understand it might take more time). You could try to build an attachment to place a cut tin can on top of your torch flame to speed things up... Also, I don't know if there are suitable masks for "burnt plastics fumes" available to the general public: you would need special filters to absorb the molecules (not particles) developed, and just using a random mask (even those for spray paint) wouldn't be effective.

Just a heads up. I’m in 8a and last year I experimented with direct planting 20 Ranuncs in the fall. I don’t have a hoop house. All but 3 rotted, so I won’t do that again. I think they got too wet. Your mileage may vary, but thought I’d mention my experience in case it’s helpful.

Just a tip with the Dewitt cloth. When you pull it up, use a silver sharpie or maybe even those oil paint pens to mark what the spacing is on each roll. Then next year, you don't have to think about it and can roll them out where you need them. Anything that saves me a brain cramp or time later is a bonus. Love my Dewitt ground cloth, totally saved my sanity in the garden.

Wow, I thought I was busy! Incase you didn't know, you can buy plastic with holes already in it. You could also use a mulch hole burner that burns the holes perfectly round and you don't have to bend over. The mulch hole burner is expensive but probably worth it for how many holes you are burning. Thanks for sharing your journey!

Did the campanula make it? I'm floored that you can start this early... in zone 4!(?) So it looks like corms are really cold-tolerant. I was curious if any of the seedlings are this tough. I've done poppies, larkspur, and calendula in mid-March under a low tunnel (Chicago zone 5) If I could start sometime in late Feb/early march in a high tunnel, I might not want to move every year :D :D :D

Question why would you ever lift it? Second question- my planting area has straw in the area currently and I plan to cover with the Dewitt fabric and leave whole to let the Florida heat bake the soil to try and kill fungus. I will have Roselle in pots in the area this season. Now the question- can I leave the straw and leave to decompose to feed our Florida sand/soil? My fear is when I torch to plant if there is still straw it will catch fire.
