Do moso bamboo self pollinate in case of flowering? I searched a lot and couldn't find an answer

We had a long conversation about this at a recent workshop. Bamboo plants can pollinate themselves, and this seems to be true across all bamboo species. The greater mystery is why in some cases, like Henon which is currently flowering, the pollination does not appear successful, because the flowers are not producing any seeds.

@@bambubatu thanks for answering, I understand what you mean. Here in Brazil we have a native species of running bamboo( merostachys speciosa), that flowers every 30 years or so, and the same thing you said occurred. Between 2005 and 2009 they all flowered and produced an absurd amount of seeds similar to rice, but bigger. but even with so much seeds just a small % of them germinated and produced new plants.

Because it's blooming, all the energy is going into the flowers while the culms whither and languish.
