Shades of Gray Wedding Bouquet

In this Flower School How-To Video the focus is on the 2021 Pantone color of the year, Ultimate Gray. While subtle moody hues have been growing in popularity for some time, the announcement by Pantone naming Ultimate Gray as one of the colors of the year will certainly bolster this trend. This bouquet is so beautiful. I love everything you do 😍 Amnesia roses are my favorite. I have a question about the dusty Miller that was used. The stems appeared to be very short, are they long enough to drink if placed in water? Would they wilt quickly? Does dusty Miller generally have short stems?

What excellent questions, Olivia! Dusty Miller is a beautiful foliage and it takes a little work to keep it looking fresh and lovely. It can have short stems and sometimes the leaves need a little care. We suggest that you give it a fresh cut on an angle, place it in cool water mixed with flower food, and give it time to hydrate well. You can also dip it in Quick Dip before placing it in water to help it drink more and perk up. We hope this information helps, and thank you for watching our show today. P.S. how would these flowers in the bouquet stay fresh and not wilt

That's an excellent question, Kristi! The best way to insure that your bouquet stays fresh and beautiful is to process your flowers and foliage at the beginning by giving them a fresh cut and setting them into clean water, flower food, and possibly Quick Dip so the flowers and foliage have time to hydrate. When the bouquet is finished, you can set it into a vase of water in the cooler so the floral materials can continue to drink until that special day. Then you can finish it off with ribbon on the day of the event. We hope this information helps and will inspire you to create something similar. Leanne. I am watching many of the bouquet videos with chicken wire armature. In this one, you use dusty miller, but it is quite short. At such length, it will likely be unable to sit in water while the bouquet awaits delivery to the bride. I find that dusty miller can be challenged even when in water. Any suggestions as to how to keep it "happy". Thanks Justine

That's an excellent question, Justine! You are right that dusty miller can be challenging but we do have a suggestion that will help insure that it is lovely for your bouquets. We dip our dusty miller in Quick Dip, which is a rapid hydrator that helps it drink more water so the stems will be fresh and beautiful for your designs.
