Flowmaster 40 Exhaust and Chrome Tips to my 2019 GMC AT4

In this short video I have had the stock muffler, resonators an tail pipes removed and replaced.
GM wanted almost $2200 for a cat back exhaust and Cold Air Intake. I will do it for under $800. Here is how.
I had the Flowmaster 40 muffler installed with tips for $308
I will buy the Cold Air Intake from shopchevyparts.com for $468.

It comes with the install labor from GM and the tuning to get an additional 15 hp.

@@barynovacek5982 awesome! let me know how much the gas mileage changes. I've always done the CAI and exhaust mod on all my vehicles. I've gained power but lost a few MPG. I know the computers are getting better than ever so I wonder how it will compensate.

@@benfair3299 On my CAI install I took it to the dealer and they changed the computer to handle the new air intake etc. My video shows that as well. In the single take I have used I have seen about 1 mile per gallon better so far.

The super 10 without resonators is awesome. No drone and pretty quiet in cab. The difference is when you start it and open up the throttle!

I did the same for 445. Had a flow master super 10 welded on and removed rear resonators 200. Then I installed a Volant cold air intake 245. It makes a few more hp than GMs parts.

It was the Regular 40. But you need to remove resonators as well.

Do you have any drone going down the interstate? I put a black widow race venom muffler on mine and anywhere from 65 to 80 mph the drone is terrible and I’m going to change it because I hate it

No real drone from it. Slightly as slow 15mph speed with DFM. I have MUCH more drone from the tires at 50mph then anything.

No bad at all There is some of course as it is not a huge quiet muffler anymore. I had a 2018 with v4 mode that was much worse.

No I don't. All you need to ask for is a Flowmaster 40 size though. Flowmaster is a brand name and their are generic ones built to match that though.

You meant he Auto Stop? It is surprisingly quiet. I wish it had a bit more bark at that moment. I plan to fully disable that in the near future.

I did a flowmaster 40 series on a GMC Sierra 6.2, kept the resonators and the drone is killing me. Didn’t want it too loud, if I take off the resonators will it be much louder and drone gone?

Bary. I have a 2020 on order. Can you tell me why you need a cat back when all the pipes are big enough stock? This is a question.

You don't need a CAT back exhaust at all. The truck will operate and run great. You can order the CAT back from GM from if I remember right ~$2200. what you get with it is more air flow and the reprogramming of the sensors for that air giving you around 15 more HP. For me that 15 is cool but more then that a truck that whispers along is not a fun truck. It needs to rumble some thus changing the mufflers and removing the resonators that make the truck run quiet. Now with that air stopping stuff removed add the CAI and get the extra HP. In this I showed you what I did and it cost me around $800 instead of the $2200 option. That saved money buys bed covers and other cool toys for it. Hope that helps

@@barynovacek5982 Thank you. Yes. I live in california so CAI is a nono. I had planned on just adding a flowmaster muffler for some opening and some sound which is what I usually do. I asked the muffler shop about a cat back and they said the new trucks don't need them.

@@jeffsarratt8009 In reality if you change the muffler and remove the resonators as I did the size differences and the removal of the parts basically is changing everything from the cats back. You can patch in the sizes and only do the mufflers as well. It wasn't for increasing pipe size it was just changing parts and filling it back in. Really? The CAI I bought is a sealed piece and in REALITY was nothing more then adding a K&N filter. I guess they don't want that heat box removed, so if I was you I would just buy the K&N that fits and change to a flowmaster. It will be great.

I just went to a local muffler shop an they installed the 40 that worked. I don't know what the ports looked like as the modified it to fit custom.

Yes, you can just change the muffler and leave the rest. That is not a problem

Those are not tips. They are just a chrome cover clipped onto the bumper. The stock tailpipe is actually lose and just pointed at that area in the back.

No it does not. and in fact they did the tune on the cold air intake and fixed a rattle that was created with the new pipes.

I bought the tips on amazon for $50. Then had the flow master 40 and tips installed for $250. So $300 to get a priceless sound

Thanks for the great vids Gary! How hard was it to get the air duct reconnected back the the bottom of the new box when you did you CAI? (I came from that vid). Notice any change in gas mileage since the exhaust, cai, and tune? Thanks!

It isn't hard to get it all connected back up. I have not really noticed any difference in gas mileage but to be honest that was not my motivation. The sound and power when I want it is. I am still waiting for a tuner so I can make more changes.

Bary Novacek thanks for the reply. I’ve got a 2020 trail boss ordered and contemplating my bolt-ons. I’ve been told that the tuning options for these new trucks are very limited and very expensive right now. Hopefully that’ll change soon.

How are you liking the Flowmaster sound for daily driving? Is the overall sound bearable during heavy towing, perhaps while towing a load at highway speeds?

The sound for normal driving I love. I like s slight rumble. I have not hauled anything big only a couple jet skis so under a load I do not know.

It is the 40. The inlet outlets matched the 2.5 or 3 inch needed to match the truck pipes. I bought it at a muffler shop and had it all cut and installed there for $250.

In reality flowmaster does not have the patents anymore so there are many other generic mufflers that are built in the flowmaster style. So it would depend on the brand of muffler. As stated in video it is the equivalent to the Flowmaster 40 model and when you pull out the stock muffler it is 3 times the size so you need pipe to connect between when doing it.

@@MrJakerevlis this truck does not go into 4 cylinder mode it balances across many different layouts. that being said yes it does get a slightly different drum kind of sound BUT not near like the 2018 trucks that did the v4 mode. I will as soon as I can have that programmed out though as I hate it. I want it in v8 all the time. (i bought a v8 I want a v8)

Yes, the AFM is still active. There is a slight drone but the truck doens't do the V4 mode. It actively changes so the drone is much less then my 2018 truck that did the v4 mode.

Anytime you leave stock it goes from quiet to a rumble and some drone. Drone at some speeds most the time just a nice rumble.

Man I really dislike this new OEM exhaust setup on the Sierra/Silverado. The rectangular tips don’t really look cool in case that’s what they’re after, maybe they just add little to the “premium” look. And for those who want to hook up any other exhaust that doesn’t come straight out the back will be left with a retarded looking rear bumper. Maybe it’s me and my OCD, but GM should have left things as is with the way the stock exhaust exits.

They were copying the Dodge round hole in the bumper look. I had to bring mine out the back to use that same notch as well but opted to put in the dual round tips to give it a better look. I just got my CIA in the mail. i will open box it and get it installed and put up a video for that as well. the cat back exhaust from GM is $2200. I will have around $900 in mine so hope this helps others to see they can do it cheaper also.

Bary Novacek Dodge’s setup looks better than GM’s ngl, but either way, carving out the rear bumper for an exhaust isn’t a good idea IMO because it limits the consumer to use one exhaust setup only unless they’re ok with a weird looking bumper. I like your quad tips style though, pretty unique and aggressive (I think I’ve only seen 1 truck with this setup). Speaking of vehicle parts, unless it voids your warranty, just buy everything you want anywhere except the dealership/GM, they tend to put a hole in your pocket for the smallest of things and the price difference between them and outside vendors can be astronomical.
