As mentioned in the vid, i do value suspension over the motor so slash+ would be great. But losing 5k in 18 months on my previous bike has put me off paying full wack. Then factor in motors like dji and the reality is you can have your cake and eat it. Us consumers just need the manufacturers of the best motors to talk to the manufacturers of the best bikes.

Sweetest low profile emtb out there! Perfect long travel and kinematics. Luving the Vivid/Zeb pairing. Another 200 Wh juice box and a TQ-75 Nm peak tune for the Slash++? Just needs more torque for heavier riders...
@jpslaym09362 ай бұрын
I think with the DJI 1000w motor thats also lighter and just as efficient than all the other “full power" motors out there, we will see a separation in near future going forward where e-Mtbs with lesser than 1k watt motors will be also -rans in the marketplace. These half power bike models will be very difficult to unload until redesign.

Yes I would love to see this slash built around the DJI motor. The cost is still prohibitive for me though especially when they lose value so quickly .

Great review Wil 👏. Interesting bike that may only strongly appeal to a select, wealthy few or diehard Trek Slash fans who been waiting for this bike to be developed and haven't been tempted to give up their regular Slash for the full powered Rail due to the weight and handling characteristics of the latter. I mean it costs the same as the regular Slash so why wouldn't you want the battery and motor for free? For my body size the omission of M/L size is a deal breaker and as you mentioned for a more portly and unfit rider than your good self, the outputs on the TQ just wouldn't do for a bike that is meant to be ridden both up and down the steepest, gnarliest terrain you can find. The new Sight VLT would be more attractive as i don't need that much travel and has new gen 5 Cx and still has high pivot and mullet set up. Mind you if only the C1 model makes it to Oz, then $16K isn't much cheaper than the Slash+. Some good deals going around for older Transition Relays for $7000 cheaper too, i wonder how the Slash would stack up against those? IIRC you can remove the battery from those for shuttling days too. DJI Amflow yes amazing on paper but nobody yet knows how reliable those bikes (& frames) are yet

18K?? 😲Hopefully AUD is only 70% of USD because that is some Bizarro World pricing for a bicycle.
@billydeewilliams89092 ай бұрын
It's $12k USD. I really wish they sold it as a frame. I'd love to replace my somewhat aging Rail frame with this one. The Rail's 85 nm motor is just too powerful and the drivetrain is always breaking, but all the other parts are in great shape. Generally speaking, e-bikes should be available as framesets, not just complete bikes.

Excellent point on matching the motor and battery to the rider (regarding weight and fitness). Should be one of the main factors when choosing a eMTB for sure.

I think it would depend on your preference when it comes to reach and stack. There is quite a big jump going up to the Large, which has a 480mm reach and 639mm stack. It'd be worth comparing those figures to your current bike and others you've ridden to see if it's in the right ballpark. [Wil]

Trek bikes depreciate horribly- I bought a Trek Fuel ex 9.8 for R90000 (South African Rand) in 2022 - today you can buy the same bike R40000 brand new - same spec. So imagine paying those huge $$$ for this bike only to find in 2yrs time it’s lost half its value

If only it had the Bosch SX Motor…..
@FlowMountainBikeYouTubeАй бұрын
The Bosch SX motor is a fantastic system, but the drive unit is still quite large and I'm not sure it would have fitted into the Slash+ frame design. Trek told us that it didn't want to compromise on the suspension with this bike, and going for the compact TQ motor meant the engineers could retain identical kinematics to the regular Slash. I think that decision will impact this bike's popularity with riders who choose their e-MTBs based on the motor, as the TQ isn't overly powerful. Not everyone is after a really powerful motor though, and I quite like that Trek stuck to its guns and focussed on handling and suspension with the Slash+, even if it makes for a less commercially popular bike.
