Great example of what’s good about both wrestling and Brazilian Juijitzu. The power, base, and violence of action in wrestling and the technical deadliness of BJJ. Learn both.

I have to admit when there was about 7 minutes left on the clock, I just started skipping forward to see if anything happened. Bo was literally just standing there slapping Ryan away and not attempting any takedowns (I know the reason why but it leaves us with a situation where he's just trying to avoid being taken down for 15 minutes) And it's obvious Ryan can't take him down in a traditional way so it's kind of an an impasse.

What I can say is that getting rid of any types of guard pulls and all leg submissions is a huge disadvantage for Gordan. This is because the main thing different from BJJ and wrestling is that you can use guard and attack for submissions, some of the best being those attacking the legs. This made it as close to wrestling as possible with very little difference only being you can submit. What I'm trying to say is that this gave a major disadvantage to Gordan throughout the match.
@ImN8Dwg

Hence the reason he lets bo take him down. He could just stay down in an open guard and walk down bo. Gordon just had to adapt
@justinha9846
@justinha9846 Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say it's a huge disadvantage. There are a thousand other submissions that can easily be setup that aren't leglocks. It just makes it a bit more fair. It's still very unfair for Bo but it's slightly more fair (and way more safe for him) since he doesnt have to worry about leglocks.

I'm a Judo player and I used to love it when wrestlers would come to our dojo in their off season. I learned a lot from wrestlers about avoiding the take down and I was able to apply it to my Judo in many different ways. I never really had much trouble throwing wrestlers, but then again, they were playing by Judo rules and I would NEVER say Judo is better than wrestling, they are simply different, with different rules. It always used to make me laugh when JJ players would compete against other disciplines and say, SEE, JJ is better. Even though they ALWAYS had the other discipline compete with them under JJ rules... This competition is refreshing...

I would say that the rules were HEAVILY in favor of Bo. Pretty much bout all he did was push Ryan away and squirm to escape when Ryan caught him. It was obvious that he wasn't trying to win, he was just stalling. He did one suplex, which was nice, but then immediately got away again because he had no real idea of how to actually win the match. Even with the rules limiting Ryan, once he got ahold of something other than his legs (which he couldn't use to finish the match), it was over as expected. I would be interested in a rematch if Bo took some time to fully train in jiu-jitsu and they had a straight up match to truly test his skills.

@@MackTrainingAcademy the striking probably favors the wrestler more for just a ground and pound situation. Wrestling is all about pressure and control. A good ground and pound is all about keeping a dominant position over your opponent , so it fits wrestling perfectly. Also if you’re experiencing a ground and pound wrestling would probably help you get back to ur feet than bjj. The only advantage bjj has is potential submissions, but those already exist without the striking.

Sure he may not have expected the suplex, but it's not like Bo had to fight to get it either. It was handed to him. Aside from that, Gordon had restrictions. Did Bo have any? For a wrestler he never once went for a take down. He pretty much just guarded against it himself. I'm not sure how the rules could possibly make sense, but this definitely was not it. You end the match in BJJ by submission and in wrestling by pin. They made it so that pins do not matter, but submissions still do. They created a point system that Ryan didn't care about because it always benefited his advantage. Why would Bo want to take him down if he has no chance to end it with a pin, but instead it puts him right into Ryan's advantage? Nice try whoever put this on, and credit to both these guys for trying to make it work, but in the end it was boring, didn't make sense, and really only left 1 possible outcome (other than a draw).

@Jake He had already started practicing BJJ. If he just wanted to compete in BJJ, he would have just competed in BJJ (and probably not start with the guy who is considered the best). The point of this event was to pit the best BJJ practitioner against an elite wrestler on an even playing ground. My point was that it is probably impossible to create a rule set that didn't favor one guy or the other. In this case the rules favored Ryan. I'm sure Bo knew it and accepted anyway. Kudos to him.

Yeah, I thought that was pretty goofy to be honest, like some Gracie challenge where you have a match with someone but you implement a modified rule set as a handicap, I get that there is a huge skill gap and they were trying to make things interesting, but I feel that it’s kind of dumb to challenge someone to a jiujitsu match and then prevent them from using leg locks and pulling guard. It would have been different if Bo was also not allowed to do those things, but with that rule set, he was allowed to freely engage in leg locks with little risk since his own legs were free from attack. Just seems really goofy, it would be like challenging Jon Jones to an mma match, but Jon isn’t allowed to go for take downs or submissions but the other guy can. You’re not facing the entire guy.

@@cornprices1718 Forgot that he came from the Contender Series. I mixed that up with an actual UFC debut lmao. Even then, Bo’s wrestling pedigree is by far the best in the UFC right now. Far better than guys Khamzat, Makachev, Usman etc. He’ll definitely go far.

Bo vs Gordon in MMA, Bo will knock him out, Gordon can’t take him down so every time he misses he’ll eat fists eventually getting knocked out!

I wouldn't say that, I would say he seemed unbothered by the idea of losing since he was sure it wouldn't happen, but genuinely pretty frustrated by his takedown attempts failing to result in him getting to a dominant position. He makes this face every time his prey got away lol

@@DavidFrycSaber More likely that he unbothered by any position Bo gets on him. Bo is too green for submission grappling and someone like Ryan would eat him with whatever position Bo lands in. You can clearly see this by Gordon pushing the action with his ass at Bo. Handicapped rules as well to protect Bo. Its all very clear
