To be fair, castles were actually intentionally designed to have confusing interiors for the uninitiated so that anyone trying to storm them would have a harder time.
@__lasevix_

Common myth. People mostly lived in castles. By the time you have to defend the inside of your castle you have lost.

@@__lasevix_castles are also used for military purposes and you’re not just going to give up if they make it inside so having a confusing interior would give defenders an advantage when otherwise they do not

Every castle was different, but there were some common techniques, like Two walls an inner and outer wall with gates that didn't align so they could shoot at intruders in case they broke trough the first one, another technique was spiraling stair to the right so defenders would have an advantage on the attackers (because they have more room to slash their swords). a gatehouse was really common with two gates and a "killbox" in the middle were they could trow stones and shoot arrows at the attackers with minimal risk. the keep had a removable stair at the entrance wich they could push away incase the attackers broke trough all the defenses. and for the last one... sometimes castles had secret exits hidden in the wall so they could launch a sneaky counteroffensive

I'm not trying to downplay his build but, realistically, castles were massive feats of engineering and earthwork. Many castles altered the terrain around them to better suit them. Moats, wooden castle walls, mottes, and retaining walls are all great examples of this.

This is definitely more fit for a count, and not a king. There's still some power projection over nearby villages, but the castle itself isn't very large or well-fortified. It's more similar to a chateau. It can defend itself against angry peasants, and has fancy fixtures, fit for a landlord.

@@deejeh9494 It's complicated. Also, I know. I am French. However, a Château is more luxurious, and focused on amenities and basic defense against annoyed peasants, not a well-organized army. I love your mindset of "it is what it is." The entire build was just a series of "it is what it is" and the finale to top off the cake was a big fat "it is what it is." I think a lot of people would benefit from having this mindset in general, especially when it comes to small annoyances that shouldn't be made to be bigger than they actually are.

A little tip for building roofs on top of randomly shaped buildings: if you think of the roof like you do with the rooms on the interior of a house, with different segments stacked together to make one shape. If you separate the roof into chunks while building, it can allow you to make a better adapted shape to fit it, and add some variety to top off the structures. Hope this helps, great videos btw!

Diagonal roofs are my field of expertise. I developed a technique to make roofs extremely flat at any angle you wish for. And it only took me 2 roofs to learn how to do it but I've never seen anyone explain it anywhere. Its not always easy to setup. Where sometime you may need to build further than the planed roof to have your pattern. But once you have it it's dumb easy. As easy as making the straightest diagonal possible between 2 points that have one direction and height difference. And then copy pasting that line. And filling the holes plus using walls if your roof is very vertical to replace some block. (as slabs can easly be inserted into the creation of the pattern for later roofs. While steep roofs need walls but thoses are easier to place later.

That was a really good looking build. I know you literally just released another video just days ago that I'm about to watch as well, and others have pointed out, but some things to keep in mind when building castles (if you want them to be more historically accurate) The purpose of the castle is to protect the royal family, so I had to laugh to myself a little when you built the main living quarters for the king and queen out of the walls where a single attack could destroy the royal family while they sleep. Additionally, typically the only structural buildings along the outer wall were guard towers - you don't want anything important to be destroyed or broken into by digging into a single wall. As others have pointed out, this would likely end up being the castle of a lord rather than king, as it is small (for a king). Of course I understand it's just a game and this was simply a creative exercise but for anyone wanting to create more realistic castles those are a few things to keep in mind.

the reason the roofs are so hard is because you dont have form on the top floor, keeping it loose looks nice as it keep variety at a maximum but i would recommend trying to make things a bit more orderly on the top floors in order for the roof to make sense, or adding towers/roof top balconies will help you guide the roofs shape to something that is less improvised.

Just discovered you recently, my first response after starting this video, was "40 minutes of Bops and Building?" and the ending result being so nice looking, keep it up.

You honestly might have just helped me become a lot better builder. After seeing this, it taught me that yeah, building randomly, not making everything perfect (like 6 blocks one way 6 blocks the other for a door way), and to adapt at what you have. Thanks man, I believe this will really help me out with my designs.

I absolutely love these videos. I'm always super concerned on being precise when building, and watching this i've gained the sense of freedom and creativity i wanted. Maybe sometime you could build a zoo, showcasing the different animals and biomes.

I really like this type of content but I think your Witcher inspired build was the best. Pls more of that 😮

Great video haha, hope you do more building like this. Also terrence has a bigger home than most of my starter bases lol. I really enjoy the lived in feel and having the road between the village and castle was a good choice! Sorry to hear about the corrupt world, but awesome build nonetheless!

"Cuz this is like a fancy.. king, right? He lives a nice castle, so it's gotta be all fancy." He says when most of the castle's flooring is nothing but dirt.
