Every castle was different, but there were some common techniques, like Two walls an inner and outer wall with gates that didn't align so they could shoot at intruders in case they broke trough the first one, another technique was spiraling stair to the right so defenders would have an advantage on the attackers (because they have more room to slash their swords). a gatehouse was really common with two gates and a "killbox" in the middle were they could trow stones and shoot arrows at the attackers with minimal risk. the keep had a removable stair at the entrance wich they could push away incase the attackers broke trough all the defenses. and for the last one... sometimes castles had secret exits hidden in the wall so they could launch a sneaky counteroffensive

This is definitely more fit for a count, and not a king. There's still some power projection over nearby villages, but the castle itself isn't very large or well-fortified. It's more similar to a chateau. It can defend itself against angry peasants, and has fancy fixtures, fit for a landlord.

A little tip for building roofs on top of randomly shaped buildings: if you think of the roof like you do with the rooms on the interior of a house, with different segments stacked together to make one shape. If you separate the roof into chunks while building, it can allow you to make a better adapted shape to fit it, and add some variety to top off the structures. Hope this helps, great videos btw!

Diagonal roofs are my field of expertise. I developed a technique to make roofs extremely flat at any angle you wish for. And it only took me 2 roofs to learn how to do it but I've never seen anyone explain it anywhere. Its not always easy to setup. Where sometime you may need to build further than the planed roof to have your pattern. But once you have it it's dumb easy. As easy as making the straightest diagonal possible between 2 points that have one direction and height difference. And then copy pasting that line. And filling the holes plus using walls if your roof is very vertical to replace some block. (as slabs can easly be inserted into the creation of the pattern for later roofs. While steep roofs need walls but thoses are easier to place later.

That was a really good looking build. I know you literally just released another video just days ago that I'm about to watch as well, and others have pointed out, but some things to keep in mind when building castles (if you want them to be more historically accurate) The purpose of the castle is to protect the royal family, so I had to laugh to myself a little when you built the main living quarters for the king and queen out of the walls where a single attack could destroy the royal family while they sleep. Additionally, typically the only structural buildings along the outer wall were guard towers - you don't want anything important to be destroyed or broken into by digging into a single wall. As others have pointed out, this would likely end up being the castle of a lord rather than king, as it is small (for a king). Of course I understand it's just a game and this was simply a creative exercise but for anyone wanting to create more realistic castles those are a few things to keep in mind.
