Why are platforms so low compared with UK ones?

Their loading gauge is different (meaning the coaches are taller and the doors can be lower.

Most countries have lower platforms than the UK. Elsewhere it's quite common to have the platform at or near ground level, so that you have to climb up steps to board a train. Crazy, I know. In this respect I think we got it right where other countries didn't.

@@benedekhalda-kiss9737 Yeah. Hungary actually has some OK stuff but my general experience is that mainland European diesels are very quiet compared with British ones.

Sadly we only had 66 passengers and it was a superb 3 day tour. I had a cabride in both 56 115 and M61 001. Tour had 6 locos in total including CFR 60, M44, M43 and C50.
