RE: PAUSING, EXPRESSIONS & AIR-INSTRUMENTS:
Please be mindful that we will pause (we prefer to react in the moment & to avoid copyright strike), we will react with enthusiasm, smiles, tears, conversation, exchanged looks and air-instruments. We are expressive by nature and are truly very quirky in every sense of the word. This is who we are and this is what we’ve got to offer. We understand it may not be for everyone, but here's to hoping you all enjoy and we absolutely love positive comments and feedback.

Alan Parsons was an engineer on albums like Dark Side of the Moon (Hence your connection to PF) and Abbey Road. He teamed up with Eric Woolfson to form The Alan Parsons Project. Their first release, Tales of Mystery and Imagination was based on the writings of Edgar Allen Poe. Their second release, I Robot is loosely based on the writings of Isaac Asimov. They bring in additional artists and vocalists. They usually have two or three instrumental tracks per album. Andrew Powell arranges orchestration and choirs.

Eric was a college professor, who had always been interested in adapting the works of Edgar Allan Poe into a musical of some kind. Their initial collab lead to APP's first album, TALES OF MYSTERY AND IMAGINATION - a MUST-LISTEN as you fall deeper down the group's rabbit hole. Hard to find a bad song between TALES, ROBOT, PYRAMID and THE TURN OF A FRIENDLY CARD.

Back in the day stereo systems were everything to us and there were HiFi stores everywhere. They would always use certain albums and songs to show off the expensive systems. I Robot was one of them. Until you hear it blasting out on a expensive stereo system on vinyl and high tech speakers you haven't lived!

The album "I Robot" was originally intended to be a concept album based on the book "I, Robot" by Isaac Asimov, but for several reasons, devolved merely to an exploration of the blurring of the line between man and machine. It thus is a bit more of a "themed" album than a full concept album. The final song - an instrumental - on the album is titled "Genesis Ch. 1 V. 32" - the Biblical book of Genesis' first chapter has only 31 verses: the implication being that man creates machine in his own image ... The cover art is an image of a robot (by noted artist Storm Thorgerson) superimposed over a photo of Terminal 1 at Charles De Gaulle International Airport in Paris - the weird "transport tubes" are real :-) APP can easily be as much of a rabbit hole as Rush, Tool, or any of a dozen others - have fun! Oh, and don't get discouraged by the knuckleheads - haters gonna hate, but they deserve their fate!

@@NicknLex Like Grady Patterson said above, it was originally intended to be based on Asimov's book and Parsons and Wolfson took their idea to Asimov for his blessing. He LOVED their idea and was very enthusiastic about it, however he had only recently sold the rights to the book!!! Please note the the album title is missing the comma from the book title, therefore not infringing on ownership rights. Also, all of the orchestral arrangements were done by Englishman Andrew Powell. You will hear the exact same type of sounds and arrangements on Al Stewart's two consecutive albums, Year of the Cat and Time Passages as Parsons produced them.

Tipos macanudos

One of my few fav prog/techno groups along with PF, Yes, and others. They came along a little after Steely Dan. We were lucky during that era because we were receiving gold nuggets on a routine basis whereas you have just discovered Fort Knox and all the old gold in America and the UK. There’s a lot to sift through but you should continue your Steely Dan journey along with latter Doobie Bros. And Boz Scaggs (more towards r&b/jazz).

I love seeing you both listening to this 60's and 70's music. It's far more than a rabbit hole. It's more like the opening to a cave of enormous size. When you get inside the sounds, after all you're in a dark cave, are captivating, enthralling and seems to come from everywhere. Steely Dan, Thw Who, David Gates and Bread, Blood Sweat and Tears, Dr. John (Right Place Wrong Time), Focus (Hocus Pocus). You children have only had a peek into the hole. Keep going and let the dark envelope you as the sounds cause your mind and body to move. Yes, I subscribed. I just have to see more of your reactions while on your journey.

In the late 70s, this was the music that went with a montage of the "state of the art" computer technology - sophisticated devices like punched card readers, tape reels, and 300-baud modems.

I think you two might also get into some early Genesis stuff, too. Lamb Lies Down On Broadway, Squonk, Dance On A Volcano, Firth Of Fifth and many more.

Going back to this one. When your room was sparse... My wife loves Alan Parsons. Reminds me of ELO and Pink Floyd and Moody Blues and Renaissance and Jean-Michel Jarre. On and on and on. Oh and I forgot the disco beat to I Wouldn't Want to be Like You! Reminds me of Average White Band...a scottish blues band haha! I got work to do! Remember Pick up the Pieces?

I took this from Wikipedia because I thought it was interesting facts, Parsons was involved with the production of several albums, including the Beatles' Abbey Road (1969) and Let It Be (1970), Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon (1973), and the eponymous debut album by Ambrosia in 1975. Parsons's own group, The Alan Parsons Project, as well as his subsequent solo recordings, have also been commercially successful. He has been nominated for 13 Grammy Awards, with his first win occurring in 2019 for Best Immersive Audio Album for Eye in the Sky (35th Anniversary Edition).[3]. My favorites were Higher Ground and Prime Time. Oh and I Wouldn't Want to be Like You, glad you played it!

I am totally with you on the Higher Ground and Prime Time being my favorites! I always say I am a B-side kind of girl though. I don;t think it's common for those songs to be favorites, so I am in good company here!

What's funny is that with my musician fans, we'd often sit down when someone would suggest "Hey, listen to this," or we'd buy it, listen to it, and get back to listen to it together. I guess that's how our musical catalogue got so huge.

I always tell people Music is like food, you're not always in the mood for a burger, sometimes you want Chile or Chinese or whatever. It's a mood thang. What are you in the mood for? Music varies with mood and atmosphere. So to me, it is better to like all kinds of music, that way you fit in anywhere and can still enjoy yourself. To stay with just one Genre is cheating yourself out of life and the Music world.

Alan worked behind the scenes for the beatles, and when he started his band he used his mixing creativity to create better stereo and great switches in your ears.

So here's a rabbit hole I would like to suggest for you, starting with a later song on this "I, Robot" LP: "I Break Down", lead vocalist Allan Clarke, formerly of the Hollies. In the Hollies he sang "He Ain't Heavy (He's My Brother)". Formerly of the Hollies was a singer-songwriter, Graham Nash, who was in a group, Crosby, Stills, & Nash. They had a song, "Marrakesh Express". NEIL Young wasn't in that group yet, but he would join them for their next album. Around that time, he and his own band, Crazy Horse, had a song (a long one), "Cowgirl in the Sand". Speaking of "Cowgirls", on the cover of 10cc's 1975 album, "Original Soundtrack" is a painting of a Cowboy on a horse. On that album is a legendary track you two may be familiar with already, "I'm Not in Love". You were talking about the importance of headphones during the ELP "From the Beginning" reaction-video....well, "I'm Not in Love" is the ultimate headphones song/track. You listen to this and even your MOTHER will look down and think you're back in her womb, not to mention you yourselves. If you check out 10 cc's next album, 1976' "How Dare You!", you'll find on it a long, Beatle-esque ballad, "Don't Hang Up". Speaking of "Hang", there was a supergroup in the late '60's that specialized in wildly re-worked covers of songs from unlikely sources. That band was Vanilla Fudge and the covered song from them I'd like you to listen to is "You Keep Me Hanging On". There's a good actually live version of it on KZbin; I can send you the link, but I'll have to look for it. There! That should keep you busy for a while! Just go through my comment and snatch out the songs. Again, thanks for the F.T.R. commentary vids.

I grew up listening to Alan Parsons Project, but didn’t get to see them in concert until I was given tickets three or four years ago. They sound amazing, and was surprised how many of the songs were part of my subconscious, since I knew the lyrics to most of the songs.Love your channel.I just found it this week, and now I’m binge watching them all.Keep up the good work.
