It depends what type of punch you’re talking about. Floyd has excellent balance on his feet as well as a solid chin which allows him to take punches well. However, all it took for Mosley to stun Floyd in the first round of their fight was a single well-timed punch. And why? That’s because Mosley feinted a punch leading up to the actual punch which left Floyd momentarily flustered and caused his legs to buckle and he lost his balance and just as that happened the real punch came flying at his face at the perfect moment.

The problem that Floyd has against Oscar is that the Philly Shell defence doesn’t protect well against jabs. Oscar excels in jabbing as well as taking away the centre of the ring from Floyd which is key in order to beat him. Both of them in their primes would’ve been an awesome fantasy fight

@@bekeneel Doesn't have to. Taking away your opponent's offence is the number one way to show you are out boxing the other fighter and the best way to do that is to keep them off-balance. Floyd was rarely off-balance in this fight but most of the time he wasn't able to throw when he wanted to. He relied mostly on potshots and slips to steal rounds and put enough points in the bank to win the fight. Judges favour clean punching over mostly ineffective activity which is why they gave it to Floyd

Many times throughout the fight he fought just enough to survive. Too much running, and holding. Granted, although De La Hoya aggressiveness wasn't effective at times, he was THE CHAMP and in boxing, the challenger needs to take down the champ and Mayweather didn't. Oscar actually did well as he could in this fight. Actually mixing it up with jabs, body shots, combos. But Floyd just seemed more accurate with his punches. So I can see why a judge would score for greater activity. But I think Oscar stopped jabbing in the second half of the fight. That might have hurt him. But I think the 3 opponents that could have given Floyd problems were a prime De La Hoya, and perhaps and less so a prime Pacquiao and Mosley. De La Hoya would have a greater chance than the other 2 since he had a height and reach that he could utilize in the fight and plus he would be more on his feet throwing more jabs, combos, left hooks. Just a fresher version than what we saw in this fight. He managed to get a W on one of the judge's cards so I'm wondering what a prime version could accomplish. Mosley would have a puncher's chance. He almost took Floyd out in the 2nd rd of their fight. A prime version would have finished him right then and there. But Mosley has had a history of being outboxed( his fights with Vernon Forrest, De La Hoya rematch) and so Floyd could still outclass him. Pacquiao would have to work extra hard since he's smaller and would have to rely on his speed and footwork to land his punches. Punches coming from all angles. But Pac would have to be come in a little more and open himself up to rights from Floyd. Prime Pac was deadly fast though. And every punch would have to count and be meaningful as Floyd is the master of making other fighters miss. My other concern is that a prime Pac got KTFO by Marquez. Marquez pulled it off because it became an obsession, and trained for that KO. Could Floyd time Pac coming in? Based on what we actually got, Floyd remained risk averse and defensively responsible as usual. Pac was a little too calculating in there with Floyd. Prime Pac would have to be a little Maidana-ish for a few rds and combine that strategy with his own personal skills to potentially secure/steal rounds from the judges. It would be a lot more competitive.
