Years ago I learned these patterns. What I liked was that you don’t have to go in order. I would just call out the calls while the person I was training with was half way through the combos. Eg. I would call either ‘pull, catch, body, roll’ in random order. This flowed nicely still. Then when they’re really used to it I would just slowly throw the punches without calling and their muscle memory would kick in. I’m going to do this with my son and daughter who are both below 8 years old. Thanks for your video.

Awesome breakdown bro! I would just add that there's definitely a reason for everything that is done with Uncle Roger's/Floyd Sr.'s mittwork system; for instance it's more about reaction, timing and muscle memory...the punches are definitely shorter as he has his whole frame working' and poised for both offense as well as defense- if that makes sense? So at about the 6:30 mark where you shot the punch to her body, notice how you have her actually dropping her glove in order to block that punch? This is very dangerous, look at how much room there is from her body to her head---- that large of an opening will definitely make it easier for someone to knock you out...lbs. However, when Mayweather does it, not only is he in a more compact stance...but those shorter punches" that you referenced allow for him to recoil quicker while being able to block the same punch without that large of a gap minimizing the chances of him gettin' caught"; know what I mean? People refuse to give this man his props for mastering an advanced boxing style while still possessing elite fundamentals-- if you notice, like the Peek-aboo style, not many can pull off the shoulder roll/philly shell in the first place -- you can practice it but it takes a special individual to pull it off to the level that Floyd Jr. was able to administer it; James Tony is probably 2nd best (Of course Sweet Pea was up there as well.).

Looking at them holding the pads looks nothing like what Floyd SR and Roger Mayweather (RIP) do. The flow is not even the same. Roger was doing mitts since a kid, jesse and the other dude, you mentioned mitt work looks basic and slow. Big Floyd said a guy named Del Williams taught him how to catch punches and fire off the counter. Maybe they formulated their mitt work off of that. Gonna keep looking on KZbin to see if there is more footage of jesse reid doing pads.

There's nothing wrong with doing mitts that way I just prefer training committed punches for different reasons and this is another perspective to set the record straight on that issue now every punch don't have to be a committed one but also throwing committed punches generally gets more respect than non committed ones I like the idea of a counter offensive boxing style where the focus is from a karate perspective in terms of making punches count over volume punching
@GlennHolmesLA3 жыл бұрын
hey Tim, good point mate, I go back and forth on this style, but when you're on the boxing end, it's way more challenging mentally than it seems, i like how Floyd would flow like this and really get in the zone for like 5 mins & the whack the body belt for 2-3 mins to completely switch it up, and then continue between the two. There's also that pull & long right counter in these flows which he's been so successful with in fights too, I'm more on board with it now than i used to be
