JUST put one on an RG450 and it's fantastic. Gotoh ge1996t is the best bang for your buck for sure - extremely well made with quality hardened steel (not that zinc alloy crap used on the Special and other budget-friendly trems), and it's about $100 cheaper than the Floyd original (I paid approx $145 for the Gotoh). It also came with a nice brass sustain block included which saved me another $35. The dowels & posts that come with the ge1996t are HUGE tho, so instead of routing bigger holes I just used some steel posts from a Floyd OG that I bought on eBay. The ge1996t was a drop-in replacement for my Ibanez Standard DL Trem, but the other commenter was correct here - you don't want to use the original cheap posts from the bridge that you're replacing. They'll serve you for a little while, but they're cheap soft zinc metal that will wear out very quickly & I've heard can end up damaging the blades of your new trem as well.

I've always added a little dab of lithium grease on the grooves in the posts posts and knife edges with a toothpick and never had a problem with the knife edges when adjusting the action. Even on Specials and cheaper licenced units. You shouldn't be adjusting the action very often anyhow. Once it's set where you want, it shouldn't really change.

I've used FRs since the mid 80s and thus far I've been pretty happy with my EVH 1000 series models. There is a "feel" difference between it and the OFR but haven't experienced issues "yet." Out of the box/factory, an Original Floyd Rose and a 1000-series one will sound 99% identical. The big difference is that the Original will still stand proud after 20 years of daily use. I've bought some second-hand beat-up, wrecked guitars just to salvage the Original Floyd Rose on it, and it was ALWAYS good to go after a bit of cleanup. Whereas I have an Edwards with a korean floyd 5000 series, started to have issues after 4-5 years (intonation, bad plastic fine tuners, no "flutter boing" anymore..) Long story short, the Floyd Rose 1000 can be a decent cheaper alternative but I'd swap it everyday for a German floyd

I just put a Gotoh GE1996T on my Japanese made RG470. What's crazy is the sustain block is SMALLER on the Gotoh than the LO-TRS trem it replaced, yet it has better sustain. @primaltone9064 not exactly. In my case the original trem post was enlarged/oval on the treble side to where I could pull the bushing out by hand. So drilling out to use the larger bushings that came with the Gotoh was mandatory. I started with a 27/64 bit, and despite having a successful test fit on a basswood block, the guitar wood was far older and more brittle, so it cracked when pressing in the bushings. Pulled them back out, soaked the cracks with thin CA glue, drilled out the holes to 7/16 and pressed them back in. The Gotoh fits the term cavity, but just barely. Only a couple mm between the screws on the back and the edge of the cavity. Also, the front corner on the treble side is less than 1 mm from the corner of the cavity, so REALLY close.

If anyone wants to truly evaluate the overall quality of a genuine floyd vs. any other copy (except schaller) you just have to handle both of them. What a video won't show but is obvious in person is that a genuine floyd is a finely crafted precision tool and the others are like a lower resolution copy, identical from a few feet away but up close you start seeing the pixels so to speak.

I'm not sure if there is enough space for both of the D-tuna. Thanks in advance

Hi Roberto, That is a great question. I’ve never seen anyone use 2 D-Tunas on one guitar before. I imagine, if your trem is set to where it can’t be pulled sharp, it would be plausible. Getting to the set screw on the inner one might be challenging as it is on the side. Overall, I think spring tension might be the most important thing. If you’ve got an extra $48 hanging around, it’s definitely worth trying. If you do please let me know what your results are. Thanks for your contribution. That is a really interesting thought. Since I don’t have any 7 string guitars, I may try it for a double drop D experiment. Thanks again Roberto.

And that is just for the mass. But saddles and all that see no point in the price gap. And i own a shecter with a fr1000 and a 1980s charvel with a real floyd. As long as you set them up right they all play and feel the same. I play more thrash and have never had any part of the 3 break. Hello there, The 1000 is made just like the original with the same materials but made in our Korean factory. The 1000 is only sold in bulk to manufacturers to give the Floyd Rose original option and keep the price of the guitar down. Sincerely, Dave Yockey Floyd Rose Support

Hi Ryan, I can buy that they use the same materials. However, just comparing the base plates demonstrates that the manufacturing process is clearly different on at least the base plates. The bend at the fine tuners is definitely done differently on the 1000. That area was bent prior to plating as there is a displacement of material at the bend. Maybe they machine that extra material off in Germany. If that’s the case, perhaps Korea skips that operation in order to keep production costs down. I don’t think they feel a whole bunch different. Thank you for sharing your experience.

Hi knightsoutdoors, I appreciate your opinion and contribution. Have you compaired them side by side? I have and they are not identical. Even the base plate is not made the same way, eveidenced by the way the fine tuner plain being bent and not machined. The fine tuners are not as smooth as the German original. The trem arm is slightly different, the screws are different (not size but material), and the saddles are a little different as well. Are the parts interchangable? Yes but the quaity of workmanship is not the same. I stand by my initial review based on the trems I physically reviewed. This is contrary to what FR has published on their website. Keep in mind, my comparison was done using the "made in Germany" original. The new originals are not made in Germany and I have not tried a non-German original.

Hi guitar at fourty, .1 mm is less than the thickness of a human hair. It should drop right in. If the one you’re replacing is a Floyd Rose branded tremolo, the Schaller will definitely fit with no issues. Just make sure your sustain block is the same height. If they are not the same, you may have to swap them out. The parts will be interchangeable.

I think the "S" on the Special stands for: 💩, which would explain a lot. I have a Fender Players Stratocaster with a Floyd Rose Special. These are made in Mexico and retail for $929.99!! They were going for $979.99. Thar is ridiculous pricing to have this horrible piece of hardware on it. The most annoying aspect of it is that the knurled lock nut for the arm tension doesn't hold whatsoever. It's completely useless. I'm hoping the Made In Germany models don't have this problem. I'm assuming they don't?

I have had Floyd Rose 1000s that were better than the brand new Original Floyd Rose I bought. Mine had an issue with loose fine tuners and comes loose with any use at all whereas my multiple 1000s that came on my Korean Schecter and my Edwards worked perfectly fine aside from the gray finish that was fading (and sometimes oxidizes). They stayed in tune for hours of playing without touching it. I think we can all agree that the Floyd Rose Special sucks compared to both with its grade 5 steel as opposed to the proper grade 8 saddles, however
@primaltone9064
@primaltone9064 Жыл бұрын
Hi Brandon, When I pointed out the grade 5 and grade 8, I was referring to the screws. As far as the saddles go, I think you’re absolutely right. The metals on the specials are definitely of lower quality. I’ve got an actual 1984 Floyd Rose. By 1986, it was completely oxidized. At the time, I was playing out a lot and exposed my equipment to extreme climate variations. A way to help control the oxidation is to wipe down your guitar/s after each time you play. Wiping on a super lite coat of CRC 3-36 on the ares in question can help. Thank you for contributing to the channel. Your thoughts and experiences are always welcome and appreciated.
