I remember my first condenser mic was a sterling bundle from guitar center. It was on sale for 60 dollars US and originally was 120 dollars and it came with a little pen condenser and a regular condenser mic. I was blown away by it, very good for its price and I love using that microphone with acoustic guitars! Even though I have better microphones now I still to this day use it after owning it for 4 years!

I really do like the sound of the 169 . Captures a richer tone in the lower mid range .

The very first thing I notices was that the 169 has a bit more bottom end with more peaking but smooth dynamics and the 159 has more dynamic ranges but is a bit less accurate in doing so (I think it tends to pick up a bit more dynamics that you don't want to hear which makes it sound a bit weird) however it does feel like it adds some clarity. What I would personally do is use both at the same time with a different Post-EQ and with the 169 at a lower volume so they will articulate and compliment one another.

I have the 169 paired with my uad arrow interface. Can't wait to hear how the never 1073 pre sounds on it😉

Sterling is the best mic for vocals, believe me... If you sing for real, you better have one of these instead of the overrated SM7b

Hi Enrique, I know it's been a while since you wrote this comment but I'm wondering how did you get sound to come out of the microphone because I have been trying to get that mic to work for the longest time! I got a Audiobox for my mic but it doesn't seem to work. I know the mic need 48v for it to work. PLEASE HELP!!
@felipeguerrero24092 жыл бұрын
@@katerinasmusix4774 are you using the sterling 159 or the 169? I think the 169 has the external power supply that must be turned on. The 159 only needs to be plugged into the audio interface and then turn on the phantom power.
@katerinasmusix47742 жыл бұрын
@@felipeguerrero2409 Hey! I actually got it to work just two days ago. I didn’t wanna get a new audio interface but that’s exactly what I needed for it to work. Thank you though 🥹😄

The 169 has a bigger range, both in dynamics and in frequencies. They thought it well, the 159 is good enough for home, the 169 is studio worth.

Both totally justify their price and fit into their own class. No BS sterling has some awesome products at an unbeatable price.

The 159 definitely sounds muffled compared to the 169, though still good, but that 169 is great.

The ST 159 sounds exactly like the Rode NT1 (not NT1a) but the 169 is way fuller with more body to it. The 159 technically sounds correct, the 169 sounds the way you want it to sound.
@gRosh083 жыл бұрын
You are exactly correct... I have the ST159 and NT1 and they mirror sound perfectly. Honestly, a neutral sounding mic is what everybody should seek.

Dumb question time: What is the purpose of the shock mounts? Is it to damp out vibrations from loud sounds so they don't get transmitted into the mic? To prevent or minimize damage when the bass player spins around and slaps it with his headstock?
@ksukhia7 жыл бұрын
Hahaha a bit of all the above... but mostly its there to isolate the mic from vibrations/footsteps/neighbors subwoofer/really any thuds around the mic that can come up through your metal mic stand as bursts of low frequency energy (sub bass).
