Well if you think about it, especially if he's spirit- it makes sense. Cole is a spirit of compassion and he wants to help people. As a spirit he probably can tell what Solas is feeling even more than Solas can, or want's to. So for all we know it's a weird foreshadowing to how much Solas WANTS to be stopped and saved and Cole's like "DUH THIS is what we need to be doing!"

@@ahmettosun8196 I know JRR Tolkien created an entire elven language called Quenya to write the lore for most of his books. When he wrote The Silmarillion, alot of the Quenya language was used. I think a lot of fantasy use Quenya, or at least take inspiration from it. I'll have to look into it more, but my hypothesis is that the elven language used in the Dragon Age series AT LEAST takes inspiration from Quenya.

The more I think about it (and I can't stop), the worst it becomes :( In my first comment I said that maybe I like Solavellan more than for my Cullen/Trev. Well... there's no "maybe" there anymore. I was a Cullenmancer before, and Solas was my second favorite. In base game I could easily get my heart shattered into a million pieces by him and then reload to my Cullenmance Inquisitor, and feel happy again. And when I started this DLC, I had this fluffy, heartwarming romance going all perfect, with a wedding and a dog and settling down, and I loved it, it felt a little "too easy", but great nonetheless. And then I did a Solavellan run.. and this scene ruined everything for me. I can't go back to Cullen anymore, it feels like there's something missing. Solas romance was always unique, every scene with him is so carefully constructed, you can see that he's fighting it, that he tries to stay in control, and then he just snaps and grabs your butt and eats your face (lol, sorry :), but no other scene, not even the waterfall one, is as powerful as this one. It is CRUSHING, it hurts so, so bad, you can see that he loves you more than anything, but his guilt and desire to right his wrongs and to save his people pushes him away. It is pure, delicious suffering and I just can't go back anymore. I am doomed to be trapped in sadness.

My main Inquisitor was an Trevelyan that romanced Cassandra, mostly because my preference is to play as human in my canon runs of the game, but this romance just blasts all others away into oblivion. Now I just go back and look at the other romances and feel it's just all inferior. Solas was so perfectly written, that it feels almost wrong not to play an character that doesn't romance him. I might as well have my Lavellan be the character that follows up from my canon Cousland and Hawke. I'm a sucker for story heavy content, and there is no romance in Inquisition that is more story heavy then Solas.

I remember Bull saying the Qun picks the leaders who can make the hard decisions... and live with the consequences. That is the problem with Solas. He made a huge decision that changed the very laws of nature to the world wanting to make it better. But with those changes came with major consequences, And he can't live with them so he's trying to undo what he believes is a mistake. But ultimately I think he wants perfection which probably doesn't exist.

Kingdom of Hope Or, and this may just be wild speculation, the veil IS a mistake? Name one good thing that came from his destruction of the natural world? Death to the most hyperadvanced powerful race with near uninmaginable magical tech and teleportation inter dimensional construction? Or how about the effective loss of nature. Do we even know how the veil affects the planet? Life? Nature? Since the Fade was a natural state of the world its most likely destroyed something in the balance of nature. You know what happens when nature is fucked? Everything eventually dies. The only reason everything hasnt yet is because even the veil Solas created doesnt stop ALL the fade energy/world and is like a slow drip of water just barely watering the planet keeping it alive, but for how long? How sustainable is life and nature without the fade fully breathing life into the world? How long before the humans or the blight eventually kill every living thing?

I know that Bioware always approves of diversity and representation in their games, but I honestly think that the Elven female is the canon Inquisitor. Her role as an elven savior of Thedas (following in the steps of Shartan, Warden Lyna Mahariel, and defying the history of the Exalted March), succeeding Inquisitor Ameridan as an elf and a warrior/mage, and the deep bond she forges with Solas and his cause--knowing that to save what she loves, she has to destroy whom she loves; Elvhenan and Fen'Harel. Seriously. This can't get any more perfect for canon.

Elvrn Mage it just feels right. It spits in the face of everyone's beliefs, rising up from discrimination from all sides of the spectrum, learning the deepest part of Elven history forgotten by her own kind. Most I can see either or, but with the heavy elven lore and focus in Inquisition and the DLC end with a romance, it feels incredibly canon and has a lot more potential and implications for future plot. While I would hope there could be an option to play the Inquisitor (although if they keep the style of the games, it seems unlikely, sadly) or at least see her in a future game(s) and play a big role like other characters, it would just be perfect. This is how I view Cullen vs Solas romance lines: - Cullen is like that perfect person you dream of finding. You cheer for the protagonist as she comes to love this man that challenges her, believes in her, and fights for her. Yet it's . . . too perfect. There needs to be more drama to the story. It's the kind of romance that you want to end in tragedy that makes you cry your heart out onto the pages of a good novel. - Solas . . . Now that's a relationship that calls for multiple sequels, a redemption arc, and a movie adaptation. It's brilliant in it's complexity. The natural feeling of dissatisfaction at the end leaves you wanting more and clamoring for the next installment. I love both romance lines for their own merits. Give me more!!!!

The Cullen romance would have more flesh to it, if there was actual personality conflicts between him and the protagonist. The sappy romance will always ultimately come off as unearned or cheap, so long as it remains a simplistic "don't choose the obviously and needlessly insulting dialogue option". They actually could have created interesting conflicts for the character, with regards to his views on Templars and Mages, which would connect the romance subplot directly to the main storyline.

I agree. Cullen immediately falls in love with the Inquisitor and the romance felt too rushed and perfect. Trevelyan family is religious and the Inquisitor was almost forced to serve the Chantry, I expected a conflict based on this aspect.

The line "Solas, Var lath vir suledin" is the best and most favorite line in every dragon age series to date. It was that moment solas became my most favorite romancable character in any video game. He is the only character in a video game who targeted every place in my heart. although i romanced sera my first playthrough... At first I didn't trust him... like at all. All to soon I hated him, he irradiated me on every level possible. Then I was curious, he was so wise and he seemed to care for spirits and mages like i did. I couldnt tell if he cared much for elves or not because half the time he would either dis them or defend them. I slowly grew to respect him but that was it for awhile. Then I grew to trust him to have my back, I realized he never did fail to defend me and he was incredibly powerful, s I helped him and sided with him several times. Then I grew to love his character. When the game ended in the "final" scene I was beyond shocked, at the time I was unaware I cared for solas' character, it just struck me right then because I was crying and then felt enraged. Betrayed. Every emotion I ever felt swirled inside me... then I watched the playthrough of the tresspasser dlc (I own an xbox 360... so sadness) and I wanted to hate him but I couldnt, when the inquisitor said that line I was like "..........yup I'm done.... best romance ever, fuck it im out"

I don't know. I think romancing Solas makes more sense than romancing cullen as a female elf, even though it's evidently heartbreaking. I mean it gives it more depth for Solas to have conflicts within him whether to save his world which will destroy her or not destroying her world and forgetting his own people altogether(although he is extremely decided on this one). Both options seems quite selfish. He can't have both. He can't have his love and his world at the same time. He even says at the waterfall scene "maybe in another world", signifying that he wish he has met her on his world. He cuts off his attachment with Lavellan because he is guilty of making himself attached to her world. Also, there is more chances of stopping a person when that person is someone you love. Maker, I can't stop myself from thinking about this after finishing my playthrough which was a day ago. Also not to mention the tears in my eyes whilst listening to the lost elf theme. *sigh* all my Solas feels laid to bare

I was interested in seeing what he'd say if you didn't. If I knew how to animate on a professional level and had access to the files for this scene.... I would change the animation near the end from around 12:41 - your Lavellan's face is in utmost pain and starting to lose consciousness. as you start to collapse on the ground, Solas grabs you gently - "My love..." while starting to give you the final kiss, his right arm gently holds your anchor hand, and a flash of light starts to emanate from his right hand until the screen fades to white (transition) when the white fades away, your inquisitor is unconsious, but you as the player sees her anchor hand about halfway to fully disintegrating. Solas looks back one last time, says "I will never forget you." then leaves. I swear if Bioware had more time and effort into this scene to make it like this, it would have had a wayyyy more powerful emotional impact.

Having played through this and had time to absorb everything, I'm left with three main thoughts. 1) Solas is my favourite villain/tragic hero in any form of fiction ever. I have such complicated twisting feelings of love, friendship, betrayal add horror about him. It's everything Anders should have been. 2) The Inquisition was a masterstroke from a story perspective about how to introduce a new PC to this incredibly complex and textured world, and I loved every second of this game 3) I am frothing at the mouth at the thought of Tevinter finally appearing in the series, maybe even taking control of a magister! I am so excited I can't even. I can only hope when the next game finally comes, The Lama Who Delivers will be there with us again...

I make a stark bet as in whether Solas will be the main antagonist or just a glimpse on what's really inbound. Everybody that watches this ending focus so hard on the phlegmatic yet fiery emotional aspect of the romance/friendship between the Inquisitor and Solas that seems to forget all about the destructive potential behind other Dragon Age titles or DLCs. The Evanuris are pratically the first concrete possibility. Add the imminence of another Blight and Archdemon arrival to that by any of the remaining Old Gods; Razikale, Lusacan or even the reputed Eighth Old God depicted in the constellation "Draconis" and stricken from historical records. Also the awakening of the Titan in The Descent DLC (since there's a wall carving you find underground during the walkthrough of the Trespasser DLC which demonstrates the Evanuris enslaving the first Titan[s]), the existence of powerful others Avvar Spirit-Gods and even the return of the original Magisters or some equally terrifying and potent Blight being. Of course, all of this excluding the war between Tevinters and Qunari. As you see, there's no point in Solas being the only and main concern of the next game as all DA games fully explore the path galore to bloody, complex and captivating plots. My guess? That at least a Blight and the Elvanuris will follow up in this next title along with Solas plan and the Tevinter-Qunari War. It's going to be massive!

Not only wishing, but hoping! Such as in a portion of the gameplay, probably in the late climax, in which the protagonist might actually have a chance do redeem or bring down Solas by helping him fight against the Elvanuris after he realizes the foolishness of his plan or kill him after he/she/they is/are done dealing with them, respectively. See the prime potential? Add an imminent Blight, the arising of another powerful blighted being (like Corypheus) or the appearance of the Titan and, of course, the Tevinter-Qunari War. Among inumerous new possibilities, all of this could even be simultaneously! Bioware has everything to make this next Dragon Age a fantastic next installment of the series. ;)

When I first played DAI, I had no intention of romancing Solas (I was gonna go for Sera) but then after talking with him a few times I couldn't help but find the lil egghead charming and interesting, like there was more to him. His romance overall was heartbreaking, but interesting in my opinion. You can tell he's hurting as well. The way he speaks, hell, even the animation in his last scene gave him the look of a kicked puppy. We learn that Solas isn't doing this out of joy, but of duty and guilt and that kind of stopped me from hating him altogether. He still loves the Inquisitor but he knows that he must destroy the world for the "good" of his people. He's sad. He's conflicted. I think people hate Solas and talk about his romance disappointedly mainly because they think he's a monster that tricked and betrayed you out of amusement. He does trick you but again, he'a not happy about it. He still loves the Inquisitor.

Ryan Lopez I'm wondering the same thing, I know it's tradition to start each game with a new protagonist, but I really hope they choose to continue the story with the inquisitor, I feel like it's more meaningful if solas is the main villain

I gotta say, when I first played the game, and before any of the dlc, I really didn't like solas. but after this dlc came out, he became one of My favorite characters. I just couldn't see his complexity before. he had an amazingly written story and Trespasser fleshed it out wonderfully

Misc observation- Solas does the eye glowing thing before feeling up romanced Inky versus no eye glow hand touch in platonic versions. Simply an effect of healing with a kiss instead of hand touch, camera angles not showing eye glow during platonic scenes or something else going on? Everything about Solas makes me go ಠ_ಠ It's probably me being paranoid.

This may be completely farfetched, but I'm wondering if the Evanuris might be connected to the Taint. Corypheus claimed on several occasions that the Black City was already blackened and that The Maker's throne was empty when he and the other magisters entered it. In the DLC, Solas explains that the Evanuris were so corrupted by their lust for power that they killed Mythal, one of their own, simply because she didn't share their desires. He also sealed them away because an eternity of torment was the most fitting punishment for their crime. That being said, could the Golden City be the place where Mythal was murdered? and her murder is what turned it black?"

+Cole Jordan 1. In the dalish origin the dalish warden get the taint from on of the mirrors. Also, the black city is most likely that legendary elven city, Arlathan.

I know if you join the Friends of Red Jenny it's shown that the Inquisitor has a hook attached to the elbow, but it'd be fun to switch it up between other weapons, and if the Inquisitor is a Mage, magic could be infused with the various attachments.

I just replayed DAI, romanced solas for the first time and played Tresspasser for the first time. It’s been 24 hours since I finished and… Wow. I’m so sad 😢. I forgot how much I loved the story of Dragon Age, and adding the solas romance on top of it was just,.. perfect. God the writing is so good. I really really hope there’s a chance for his redemption in veilguard. I ended up disbanding the inquisition and all the end story cards made me tear up. Especially Cullen starting a rehab for templars with his pup 💔💔 29 days… I really hope they keep the magic of inquisition.

i love how diffrent this turns out if you romance solas. his facial expression is more sad and at 12:55. solas walks sadly away from his inquisitor lover while a friend inquisitor he walks ways with his hands on his back
