I kinda would've liked if X6 had a special dialouge option depending on his relation to the sole survivor, if it's on the lower side he would want to stay with the institute as it blows with a hard charisma check to convince him not to. Getting easier to convince until the next to max relation status is received where he asks if he can stay with the SS or if the SS wants him to die with the institute because he is a synth (or something similar)

@@flargarbason1740 Right... As if that couldn't also be fabricated. Shaun was taken as a baby, he has absolutely no attachments to the player. He was raised entirely by the Institute who he's much more likely to view as family than the player. For all we know, it's just another attempt to bank on the player being too kind, so they let the kid Shaun live even if he's to rebuild the Institute. It's the same reason why many extremist groups use children as soldiers, the armed forces don't see the children as threats so the children can get close and do the killing or if the armed forces do attack then they're seen as the bad guys for attacking a child; It's a loose/loose scenario.

Yeah, I would've liked that, and I would've liked to tell the real Shaun that he's not my son because the institute raised him and When I talked to him about his father's/mother's death; He reads it up as collateral damage, he's basically the first Synth because he was trained to think like a machine and I don't want anything to do with him since the institute stole the person he could've been from me, now he's just a husk with their components inside. He doesn't know a world beyond the institute, and he's been so heavily indoctrinated from a young age to be their favourite little prick, and that if he was half the person his mother/father/my character was; He would've found a way out of their own vault by now, but he's clearly not, He's basically just biological waste that looks like my character and their other parent, but the Actual person that could've been my son died when they were kidnapped, they never came back. Speaking of Vaults; I also learnt that he kept my character locked in and released them into the hostile wastelands just to see if they could survive, and he toys with the lives of others by replacing loved ones with Replicant/Android Synth Doppelganger assassins that just snap and kill everyone and crap. That's just wrong, and I say that as a mass-murdering, town-nuking cannibal who has skulls on spikes, pikes and poles on their front lawn, who keeps all of the electric generators in Sanctuary on their front lawn too, as well as all of the flags of each faction so I can confuse the hell out of everyone, It's not even about good or evil, it's just petty, viewing human lives as lab rat lives and just manipulating them from his Ivory tower, I wouldn't raise a child to do that to people, let alone become completely reliant on the prison he lives in, My Skyrim child was so much better because she'd just occasionally get my gender wrong, complain about having fun and playing like she was asked to brush her teeth five times a minute every day, ask me for ridiculous amounts of money and moving house strangely. Anyway; That's really all that I wanted to tell him, even if I was still working for the institute, I'm not doing it for you, I'm changing the place for their own good and the future of humanity, If I can't get my son back; I'll get my past back, a world where you can read a newspaper without being destroyed by a giant robot, crab, scorpion, mutant or all four. So I'm not doing it for you and your selfish desires Shaun, The institute took my baby from me and never returned him, they owe me my past life back, that much, So I tolerate them and I do it by tolerating you, since you're all of their values, little shit, If you die; You should Be flayed, skinned and hung up in the town square at the corner of trinity plaza and be used as a jizz-catcher and piñata for all of the mutants, raiders and ghouls on heat, at best. Your memories could have been artificially put there, you could have been put together out of fake organs and flesh. There's no way you'd be able to know. Expired Milk Oh, coding makes them a robot? You have DNA, which is programmed. That’s why we have arms, legs, eyes etc. Our brain is also preprogrammed that’s what instinct is. If every human (is supposed to) have it, it’s because it’s preprogrammed by our DNA since the first human egg and sperm met. Any feelings you have are just coding in your brain that release some chemicals and electrical signals when you do something. The reason they shut down with the relay code is because of the synth component I mentioned earlier. Humans (in real life) can have a shut down switch if you simply overstimulate the correct parts of the brain. The synth component is where they store memories and information that is collected to be seen by the institute later, similar to having a covert camera on your shoulder (although if they never go back to the institute then the institute can’t get the information) The code deletes the data on the component which leaves them in a catatonic state. You can get your mind wiped too, that’s called amnesia. You can be reprogrammed, that’s called genetic engineering. So basically every example you gave can also be done to humans. A synth component can even be put onto a human and then they’d have the exact same anatomy as a synth. That’s what happened with Kellogg, even though he’s human.

After you declined joining the institute he even says that you are his enemy after you left the institute. But after you destroy his life work he suddenly gives you a replacement son that you can have your family back? I think that the synth Shaun is like a sleeper agent who is only waiting to be activated. Maybe he just waiting for the right time to kill the sole survivor. Or maybe he transformed a copy of his mind inside of the Shaun synth to survive the explosion and his disease.

He was very rushed to do anything so he quickly changed his memories so a piece of Shaun’s life work would live on. Similar to how someone might pass on a project to someone else before they die. I think the thing that hit me was that the synth was being passed on as your son, not as just a kid synth. It was a punch to the gut. At the end of it, I was like "My son grew old without me, and has now died." It was bitter sweet, but gave me closer. She's absolutely right, the Minutemen are noble but they're pretty insubordinate. Like how hard it is to convince then to stand down, or how before the game as soon as their leader died "oh well I guess that means I'm leader now" and then politics took over. Synths are more like robots in a way, and I'm not saying that to be mean. The reason for this is, they are completely artificially built, but with real living organic matter. I brought him because if you do you can send him to any settlement, wait about an in game day and he will be at that settlement. Then when you go to talk to him and he will give you these little quest, like go get him a hot plate or microscope. So you do this about three to four times and he'll give you the unique laser rifle~wazer rifle. It shoots unlimited rounds and can be upgraded to about 100 damage. Try it!

I saved synth-Shaun every time. Synth or not. And maybe one day I'm able to build a new body for him. So he can "grow up." When he's an "adult" he coud be a hero like Megaman. That would be awesome. I'm very surprised that elder maxon or Ingram did not kill Shaun when revealing that the child is a synth.

Leaving shaun is objectively a correct thing to do. This Shaun is NOT SS's son. It's only a copy made to look and think like he would. No parent in the entire world would accept something like this as their own flesh and blood child.

What would've been insane is if the reveal of Father being your son was actually fabricated to make you join the institute. The motivations of needing Shaun for the synths stays in tact and the young Shaun you first meet is still a synth but the real Shaun is locked away someplace else in the institute as your first meeting with father is taking place. Everything plays out the same including this scene until after you blow up the institute you'd run into a survivor who tells you he worked closely with the Shaun synth project and how Father being your son was an act and your real son was still alive. You'd realize the Shaun you escaped with was the real one and you'd get your happy ending or you be hit with the realization you just blew up your genuine son...

Father reprogrammed him before he died to believe he’s your son it kinda makes sense in my playthrough as I didn’t Kill father and I had high charisma so was able to convince him to help me by giving me the code to his terminal it’s possible after that he realised just how foolish he’s been and reprogrammed Shaun whilst you’re down in the reactor room

Father created Synth Shaun as an experiment to see how Synths (and, frankly, the sole survivor) would react to extreme emotional stimulus. There's zero evidence to suggest any gen 3 human Synths are "spies" in the sense of having a camera or anything like that. Only the Synthetic crows have cameras and gen 3 synths who are spies are spies pretty much like regular humans act. Frankly, the Commonwealth's ideas of Synths recording everything they see and having a secret "killcode" to make the Synth break cover and turn hostile are *BETTER* ideas than what the Institute actually created. Also, even if Synth Shaun was a spy, I don't think the data being transmitted to The Institute's smoking crater is that much of a security risk. Just a hunch.

Lets be frank here, Shaun 2.0 is a contingency plan for Institute. We know Institute can download minds and plant them on synths, eg. Valentine. We also know the Synth Department lead is still a loose end. Either Shaun 2.0 has 'fathers' memories that have either/or trigger to certain code or time trigger so that if enough time passes or the Department lead manages "confiscate" Shaun 2.0. Then again it might only have redundant databases for research and plans of the most important tech of the Institute, as we can see with the technical knack with weapon Shaun 2.0 gifts you after doing some fetch stuff for him. Either way, during events in Fallout 4 the Institute have not had so steep resistance ever, the Minutemen were gone, Railroad in its death bed from the Switcboard disaster, unless 114 revives those organizations. What would be better time to reboot the Institute, than 20 - 30 years later when they have basically become myth and legend and who could ever be better to guard the little institute Phoenix egg, than 114 the man who was instrumental destroying the Institute. Father was never sentimental, he was cold, calculating and manipulative. Shaun 2.0 and the holotape you get from him are just that, clever manipulation. ...or poor writing on Bethesda's side....
