There you go, doing your magic again! I just dragged tiles out if my storage shed to create alcohol ink coaster, now I am going to pour paint on them. I just did a class with 9-14 year olds with pour paint, they had so much fun!

Thanks so much, Shari, for the very informative lesson. That looks very fun and I love the idea of doing coasters. I always learn something when I watch your videos - always! Unfortunately, I live very near a Home Depot, so I can tell I'll be heading over there this weekend for a box of tiles. That means that this weekend, I may have to work on coasters instead of cleaning my office. Oh, the sacrifices we make!

That's awesome Carol ! I could get into a whole lot of trouble living close to a Home Depot . You can get the Floetrol there as well :) Doesn't your office need a new set of coasters ? Priorities ! Have fun !!!!

Hi! Love the video tutorial. I'm wondering about what kind of resin you use for finishing them? Does it need to be heat resistant or just the regular art type? You mentioned a video showing how you do the resin, but I couldn't find it anywhere. I look forward to hearing back from you.

I really love the boldness of the second set of coasters! Someone asked about where to find the tiles. I've gotten them at Lowes in the clearance section at times. I buy them without knowing exactly when I'll use them if they are a good deal lol.

Hi Christina! I don't add silicone so much any more to my pours , but it does help in creating lots of cells in the paint :)

Hi Shari, I'm a little late to the party here, but I hope you are still answering questions. Can these be sealed with MinWax instead of resin? I haven't tried to do anything with resin, and although it's very attractive, I'm afraid it will be just one more thing for me to mess up. :)

Once the coating of resin is dry, are they suitable to use in a bath or shower enclosure? Or a backsplash?

I'm not quite sure what you asking are you asking can you use them in the shower like maybe to put ur shampoo are something if so I would say yes I'm not a professional I'm just a normal person trying to help you out . Now if you are asking like can you do a resin pour on a bunch of them and then actually put them in as a backsplash I would guess yes I mean it's what it's meant for we just paint them and put resin on them which just keeps it protected I would be careful with the glue and grout while doing so though I hope I at least helped you a little being nobody exspecially the 1 who made the video never answered your question hun

Beautiful creations!!! I can't wait to get started on my own. A few quick questions before I set off on my own. 1. After four or so days when the paint has dried on the tiles, will there be a drip effect on the edges or does the smoothing you do throughout the process help with that issue? 2. After your paint has dried and you now pour the resin, how long do you wait for the resin to dry? 3. Would using Gesso prior to pouring help in any way?

Instead of tile have you used flat cork to make coasters? Use acrylic paints not alcohol inks to decorate or pour a pattern.

@ShariReplogle
@ShariReplogle 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Vicki ! It takes a few days for them to completely dry. It always depends on the size but for the 4x4 tiles I would leave them alone for at least 3-4 days before I sealed them . I usually do a bunch one week and make a day about a week later to resin them all. Have fun !

How do you keep the paint from separating from the tile once it's dry since the paint doesn't absorb into the surface. Do you prep the tile in anyway before or does putting resin on afterward make it permanent? I have been wanting to make some of these to sell but I don't want to sell something that wont last and I have heard some people say the paint comes off when they try to clean the tile after it dries.

i had that problem . I poured a set of 4 an the paint peeled off the tile as I was cleaning them. Very frustrating because of the time/effort/supplies that I used.
