Awesome! I got into paragliding in the early 90s and, living in the Portsmouth area, always dreamed of crossing the Solent. Time moves on and I now fly microlights, but still love the sense of pure freedom that paragliding offers. Great stuff! 🙂

Thanks for the comment! I would love to try microlight flying some day!

Hello, flying over this water definitely required courage, I probably wouldn't have given it even if I've been flying for 25 years.

This whole video was so cool to watch! 😎 I remember that Mike from The Loft (our beloved paragliding service) was the very first person years ago that has crossed the Solent flying a paraglider. This crossing is on my dream list to do. I love flying on this Island. See you there some day! 😊

Epic! How much does all that kit cost if you don't mind me asking, and what training do you need?
@johnrudge777Ай бұрын
Hi there, the equipment costs anything from £500 to £7,000 depending on how good and how old etc.You can actually learn in a couple of weeks if the weather is good there are schools all over the place and there's a really good school on the Isle of Wight called high adventure which I really recommend. The local instructor is called Paddy and he's very good and very experienced.

Amazing to see this! Curious, what radio type do you use to communicate with each other? Assuming you don't need airband as outside ATC control.
@johnrudge7772 ай бұрын
Hi Mark, it's just a normal VHF radio which we use for communicating

Is that an inflatable fin on your back? Some form of directional stability? Lovely to see the Island from height. My max height is 15’ on top of a flybridge on the waters below you. But 30 years ago I did take a paragliding lesson at Chillerton. Exciting, but five years of badly flying a hang glider was enough for my lack of skill…. Great to watch 👍🏻👍🏻
@johnrudge7772 ай бұрын
Yes, it is! It's the fin on the back of the harness
@marrkopolloАй бұрын
why don't you have original carbines?
@johnrudge777Ай бұрын
I changed them because I prefer the ones that don't untwist sometimes in the past I have noticed the twistable carabiners have come undone by themselves
