This is part of the video manual on this page www.sexyloops.com/flycast/the... This is revisting the Grip video of 10 years ago. Discussing V-grip, thumb-on-top, finger-on-top, Key Grip, the Three Point Grip and the Crooked Thumb. Most important I think is Flexion/Extension of the wrist to turn the rod over. Things to experiment with during training. Only you can decide what is best for you.

Hand position and wrist flexion makes such a huge difference in the fly delivery. Trying to get my bamboo rod cast under better control and these tips are massively helpful. Your advice is always very appreciated Paul!

If I had to redesign the Maniform grip, I think that I'd do away with the thumb platform and round off that area. Its a little too prescriptive, suggesting that thumb on top is the only way to hold the handle. It accommodates both the V-Grip and the finger-up grip. Interestingly, the main feature of the Maniform grip is that the primary grip on the handle is made with the rear three fingers of the casting hand, what you describe as the heel of the hand.

Hi Dave, with the Maniform you can use all grips, but I agree it suggests thumb on top. I have considered a ring, or lower two fingers, hoop for the Cradle Grip. It would be very interesting to design a handle. Funny thing about my crooked thumb grip, is that it’s very similar to the Maniform, but rotated by about 60 degrees around the rod.

Thanks, really looking forward to getting into the drills. Ten years is a long time! I really notice it when I go back through the earlier content. I’m also going to be disagreeing with myself quite soon actually, which should be entertaining 😎

Paul (@SexyloopsTV) - do you also use the V-grip (and crooked thumb) for the spey family of casts, maybe in particular on the final forward delivery (the Stop) of the Switch Cast and the Single Spey?

Yes I do. I also use the Cradle Grip sometimes. (That’s in the grip shift/sniff video!)

Paul, I really like your videos. Can you do a video on line management while distance casting? In particular, how to avoid line coils and bird nest from preventing line shooting out the guides?
@SexyloopsTV
@SexyloopsTV Ай бұрын
Yes is this while fishing? Or casting for distance? It’s important to get all the line that you’ll need out first in order to set it up properly. Then the first strip should be in front, or to the rod hand side, so that you’re not pulling line from underneath the pile when casting. There is a video on line management and checking the shoot somewhere but I’ll do another one because it’s a great topic!

@@SexyloopsTV much appreciated. When practicing my distance casting, I usually start with fly 40 - 50 feet away using a 7.5’ leader, then strip off the remaining 50 feet of flyline and layout to my side. However, the more I practice the more the line seems to twist resulting in line twists or coils which stop line from shooting thru guides. Again, big thanks, your videos are super practical and helpful.

@@68camarors327 ok there are a couple of things there. First you have to get it all out. Otherwise you are trying to shoot line from under the pile! Second, the leader is a bit short, that can in itself cause problems at the loop end. 9’ is better. Third, if there are twists you are mostly likely coming around the side on the backcast. I’ll have to talk about this because there is too much to write 😆
