Fly Fishing for MANGROVE JACK | UNBELIEVABLE

Ive only fly fished from shore. But will be fishing from a paddle board in Baja California Mexico in a couple weeks. That stripping basket/bin you using isca fantastic idea. Definitely gonna set up something like that. Thanks for sharing

I've had a 5wt for over 30 years and I'm still at absolute novice. I recently purchased a 2nd hand hardly used 9wt and had big ideas land based before I broke a toe that is a bit limiting. One sesh and broke the toe that night. Front grip looked better 2nd sesh. Nice editing and bringing the anger down on the back cast hang ups😂. Maybe no strip basket?

Heading into the cooler months flathead and tailor could be good next targets for your fly rod.

Is there only certain times they hit top water? An are you fishing the goldcoast or up north more where its still hot? Im getting right into fishing for jacks and just tryna learn more on how to fish em 😁🤟 tia

In the right place and right time they’ll hit a topwater! Generally I prefer a bit of low light conditions (e.g early morning, late afternoon or overcast weather) or at least some shade adjacent to structures. If you figure out the bait they are eating they will hit almost any presentation that replicates it. I’m fishing around SEQ from sunny coast to Gold Coast
