Hi, if you can find the bait fish the bass will be very near, also i test areas with spinning tackle first and move around until i locate them then i change over to fly. Location is the most important thing when bass fishing and a keen eye for birds feeding and also if you see mullet about bass will be under them. Try small sparse sandeel patterns as i have caught my biggest bass on the smallest flies even when i couldn't see the bass in the wave.

Hi Pat, unless you can tag and recapture the bass we don't know but all the bass that i have released swam away strong. Being released is better than being killed.

@atraue7 the bass were caught on the south east coast, we had five in that session weighing from 9 lbs to 11 lbs and have caught bigger. The bigger bass can be taken on the fly because they are closer to the shoreline, check out mrkingfisher.blogspot.com for more tips on bass fly fishing and spinning.

Hello & thanks for your video. I am an American university student hoping to have a go at fly fishing for sea bass in Ireland very soon. My experience is in dry fly fishing for trout in the Catskill mountains of New York. What class of rod/reel would I need for bass? Any recommendations as to weight, rod/reel brands, lines, fly patterns, etc. would be of great interest and much appreciated. All the best.

Hi Sean, all the information you will need is on my blog, Cast, hook and strike sea bass fishing blog. The rod ( 9 ft ) and reel should be rated 9/10 wt and the best lines are the Rio outbound cold salt water lines. There are some fly patterns on the blog and also some on this channel, have a look at the blog and if you have any more questions just message me, regards Paul.
