Fly Fishing Missouri | "Home Waters"

Cant say I am a fan of the concept of “home waters”.. Something about that term denotes ownership in my mind.. And that just makes me feel gross.. But in saying that I do see the value of fishing familiar places.. Wading past phantom versions of my younger self makes me reflect on who I was, how much I’ve changed, and where I might be going. Most of all these infrequent trips home shows remind me how much I still love Missouri Blue ribbon streams.

Cool channel! I grew up in Missouri and like you that’s where I learned to fly fish. Fast forward 30 years and I now live in Pennsylvania. There is great fly fishing out here in the Keystone state. If you ever decide to take a trip back east, I’d be more than willing to suggest where to.

Mike, I'm a newcomer to your videos and am really enjoying them. As a fellow Missouri flyfisher, I notice the flies you use are considerably larger than what I was taught to use for Missouri streams. Can you comment on this, please?

Pretty impressive you were able to dredge up anything in that water - it was basically ready to plow. The small streams I fish here that drain into Lake Ponchartrain, if the water is up and muddy, you might as well stay home - the spotted bass and longear bream are so geared to sight feeding.

you just passed my house in Pacific, MO past 6 flags on Hwy 44. glad to see you back. FYI Misouri trout waters are under rated and very beautiful. also I think also you may fall in love with Broken Bow, OK and Beaver Bend State Park in the ouchita mountains in Southeast, OK (one of my old stomping grounds when I lived in Tulsa). also I bet if you you may enjoy the comroderie of T Hargroves fly fishing shop, they are cool people and they would love to explore your videos and channel. BTW, in Beavers bend state park there is a fly fishing and canoe rental shop right on the water and the owner goes out every morning to fly-fish the waters. (a dream job if you ask me :) )

Went to northfork yesterday. Got skunked, but did hook one and he flipped off. Hit LP a couple weeks ago caught 30 minimum with a 13 inches as the biggest.. looking to go to Iowa driftless next weekend. What streams would u recommend for decent browns.. Waterloo?

Yeah I czech nymphed and indicator Fished. Couldn't fing the sweet spot.. either hung up on bottom or not deep enough. River was up plus the canoes were relentless

The special regulations section of Waterloo was a bit slow a week ago, not sure about the open sections north of there that are usually productive. Was on the lower section of North Bear today (3/4 mile upstream from Bridge #1). Even though there was a lot of holiday anglers thrashing the water the fishing was superb. 16 browns, zero rainbows, four fish in the 14-15 inch range. I think the fish count in that area must be pretty high. Middle French Creek and Paint Creek between Waterville and Yellow River State Forest are also good for big Driftless browns.

Wish I had tried BSC a week later when you were there! The higher more stained water would have given me a shot to not get skunked. BSC IS one tough wild trout stream and u make it look easy. Appreciate the vids!! Oh and like the new do...'Jebus' still walks on water :-)
