Ok, how about a challenge for next year’s visit: catch one of these big buggers on a dry!

I managed to snag a spot on the very last weekend, I'm leaving on Friday. It'll be my first time fishing that place and I'm super excited.

Definately not as many really big fish and they dont fight like proper wild fish but hey, it is what it is and it's still big fish and lots of fun so good stuff:)

I'm trying to mentally compare these to Coho Salmon - what do you figure the big ones weighed?
@TroutHuntingNZ Жыл бұрын
The fish from the first day are quite small compared to previous years, biggist I think was 16lb maybe.
@pnzrldr Жыл бұрын
@@TroutHuntingNZ well, that's about the size of my biggest-ever Coho! Looks like a blast. I'm unusual in that I am an American, but a passionate former rugby player and All Blacks (and Wellington Hurri's ) fan, as well as a childhood fan of LOTR. Throw that in with fishing for just about anything, but especially with fly rods, and I cannot think of a single reason I shouldn't visit your country in the near future. Are you guys connected to a guiding service, or have one (or more) you recommend? Travel sites?

Nah mate. Introduced in the 1880s.
@szerintube Жыл бұрын
Introduced from the McCloud river in Northern California.
@bssaassin1900 Жыл бұрын
@@szerintubeits amazing how those beautiful sleak bodied wild trout from the mccloud and other rivers throughout the west could end up becoming these massive but ugly, mutated pellet fed fish. Yes the size is impressive but the quality nah. A 3-5lb quality wild trout is much better than those canal fish
