Whatever happened to upstream dry or nymph only on the chalk streams?

Really enjoyed this. It's great to go out your comfort zone every now and then. I'm interested to see that you're fishing across and downstream rather than casting directly upstream which I always thought was the way to fish on rivers? I had a casting lesson a couple of summers back, got a bit of kit together and haven't been again. I really must give it a go. Such a nice and active way to fish without taking a ton of kit.

I was actually casting upstream. Upstream nymphing basically. But the flow brought it down so quickly! Yeah, you can tell it’s not something I do regularly, but good to push the boundaries 😁 Lovely surroundings and a blessing to just walk the banks. 👍👍🙌 I somehow managed a few fish too 😁😁😁

It's so satisfying when you have to work it out and then get a reward! Well done mate!

I’m an old beginner as of last year. I started with lures on the canal and have now joined a fishing association and fly fish in the Lakes. I feel like I’ve found my ‘home’. More blanks than a Field Gun Competition though.

It’s a lovely way too fish. I wish I did more of it tbh but get distracted easily! 😂

Great video yet again, caught my first wild brownie yesterday evening on a dry fly after 4 failed visits. it was very satisfying after putting the work in and watching numerous tutorials. Like yourself im a course fisherman but just fancied a challenge and can't wait for the river season to start as I will be off down the severn with my son after Barbel. Keep the good work up, the videos are superb and you have inspired me to target the perch on the lures this winter!

We canned it with Damsels last time we fly fished together. Always a winner 😉

This stretch is more known for Grayling trotting from November til February. Not to best bit of the Test but good to see you had a nice day. Most of the Trout are stories but fight well

Nice video. Downstream and across fishing isn’t the way to fish chalkstreams. Most stretches don’t allow it. Upstream only. It’s worth learning how to fish using accepted methods. It took me some time but a day with a professional chalkstream guide really helped me. I’d recommend you give it a try.

Yes, so I understand now. I’m generally a coarse fisherman so I have a lot to learn. I appreciate the feedback. A few times I’ve posted my videos and got comments that have help me out 👍 The pace of the river brought the fly across river so quickly when fishing from the bank. I think a day with a guide is a great idea. Thanks again.

@@Lifeonthebank as soon as the fly line is past the angler it should be recast upstream. Luckily the keeper didn’t see you. Would have been kicked off some beats for that 😂

The River Test is way too overrated and expensive for us mortals. Tight lines all the same.

Much better sport to get the fish on the reel. Stripping to fast is not good sport.
