Fly Fishing the Upper West Fork Bitterroot River, Montana

Most people who fish the West Fork Bitterroot River in Western Montana fish the tailwater section below Painted Reservoir. The upper section of the West Fork is a much different stream and one fished far less often. Cutthroats are the dominate species.

Always enjoy your videos, i don't have the opportunity to travel to fly fish especially trout. Rarely see you respond, have to ask if your first fly was still in that beautiful fish or if he had spit it out? Love Your and Ann's enthusiasm for your passion. TIGHT LINES

I checked - the original fly was not in the fish's mouth. I assume he spit it out after tasting it.

Well, a broken off fly is about as natural a drift as you can get LOL... I'm always certain that's going ot happen to me when I break a fly. I know exactly where you are on this stretch. I fish the upper West Fork once a year every year since about 1998. Spectacular water.

Wow... I've never seen the Reservoir that low. Well-done being persistent and nailing that big Cutt under the log. Those are special memories when you work hard over a fish and you not only fool them, but also bring them to net.

You can tell you’re new to fly fishing just by how you move in the water and how you use the fly rod, When your catch a trout and retrieve the line, grab the line below your index finger not above your hand, pinch and release. One of your catches you couldn’t grab or even find the line. Way more efficient.ditch the gloves too,not good for the fish.
