Streams like this I usually skip because they are way too shallow and clear to catch browns consistently. If you can see the bottom, the fish has already seen you. Very rarely do you have the advantage, they even get spooked from casting with dry fly line. During the summertime when the rivers lower slightly and vegetation increases, it's almost impossible. I would highly recommend checking out other streams that have deeper pools and bigger runs. They will hold bigger browns, nice rainbows, and even a few brookies. Some of my favorite streams in the driftless have pools over 5ft deep - great for mousing in July and August at night!

Upper Gooseberry is pretty good! Got a few 12-16in brookies up there - lots of great sections for em and deep pools

Outstanding video! Great ideas, logic and scientific approach. What leader did you use for the dry flies? Mono or fluoro? Thank you!
@CoppersmithStudios12 күн бұрын
I use fluorocarbon for all leaders including dry flies despite the lighter weight of mono. It allows me to use the strongest line I can get away with.

Beautiful nature and landscape! Awesome video! Thank you for sharing! I was hooked on your video - how to fish flies with the spinning rod, floating crankbaits etc. and was laughing seeing you giving up and switching to the fly fishing gear! 🙂 Good luck and God bless you! It would be awesome if you would share the list of the equipment you are using under every video, I suppose that would be of a great value for the viewers and followers! Thank you!
@CoppersmithStudios12 күн бұрын
I use a fly rod when practical because my viewers demand it and I admit it looks better, but when conditions get tough I am quick to put on a spinning reel. I will adding info about the spin-fly rods used in the near future as that is a new type of equipment that I invented and have a patent on.

Did you carry a real compass too? Could you realistically have left a trail markings path? Something to guide you out again!

I do carry a compass but without a map I am highly reliant on my GPS. I carry spare batteries. Trail markers would be hard to do out there.

I don't think a lot of people understand that you should be concealed as much as possible when fishing for trout in smaller streams. I find that I caught a lot more when I'm hiding or blending in.

Hi sir. Im thinking about this today. Thx. We have few offers of fly f rods in Brazil and are so expensive and poor warranty. I will try to use carbon spining rods with fly line and reels. Do you have a idea to 8wt number? I will try saltwater.

That is cool that you found a place remote enough (by the Cow Creek trailhead) where you were able to have success with spinners. But I take it that you would recommend fly fishing almost everywhere else in that general area? Like in most of the snake river watershed?
@CoppersmithStudios111 күн бұрын
Yes. Because of the pressure and education of the fish flies imitating the local bugs are best.

All i can catch on the wolf these days are small mouth bass.
@ryanbittersvideos11 күн бұрын
Depends on where and when you’re fishing. I catch lots of small mouth as well, but there’s plenty of trout to be had in the spring and also fall. April-June is best for trout, being mindful of the flow rate in the earlier parts. But I also don’t complain about catching smallies, they’re just as fun as the trout. It’s more about the river than it is the fish. Though, we should be doing everything we can to keep the waters cold and the tributaries healthy.

Silver Green and Silver Blue Phoebe are killer this season for me alone with no flies. Had to upgrade the trebles tonight, hopefully they hold up better. Thanks for your anti-elitist approach in this series, as i learned from another local that i might need flies to get trout to bite on my creek. Ive been an ultra light fisherman my whole life and can’t imagine going out and enjoying myself another way.

And thanks to people like you and the internet its one of the most visited places in the park. Forgive me if im rude but thats my basically backyard. I see trash in the creek and on the trail. People with there sorry dogs on the trail. Picking flowers. All is illegal. I can remember fishing there as a kid and there wasnt a soul around. Not a car in any spot but my dads. I bet you had trouble finding a place to park. Anymore you almost always have to park in the horse camp area if you wanna fish. That used to be illegal but i guess not anymore. They value the tourist more than the horseman. Its a shame. I hate change. Nice video though. Ive caught a fish out of every hole in that creek from the park boundary to walnut bottoms id say and then some.
