Fly fishing the White Mountains in Arizona

This was my first time checking out this area looking to try and catch an elusive wild and native Apache Trout. Beautiful area, I’ll be back sooner than later. Please catch and release in these areas and using single barbless hooks would be wonderful too.

Nice work! Moving to AZ from a trout country soon and these type of video is what I need to comfort myself lol Minor suggestion: When fishing a small creek like this, try to cover as many water as you can, 3-5 cast per spot is more than enough, quantity>quality, downsize to a 2-3 wt with smaller line will make a huge difference as well

Thanks for watching! I get what you’re saying, typically I’d have used my 3wt but my wife at the time was using it. That was my first time fishing that spot and I know there are some decent fish in that river so I went with my 5wt with a 12ft 5x leader. From what I understand that area used to be even better before a fire tore through several years back.

barbless hooks should be outlawed.....they penetrate twice as deep as barbed...I thought we put this issue to bed 40 years ago, dude.....

Your comment is ridiculous. Releasing fish with barbless hooks doesn’t rip of trout lips and many times my hook as come out of the trout on its own when I’ve netted fish. If there was any sort of validity to your comment than why do fly fishing only rivers require barbless hooks? Again, your comment makes no sense… smh

Strange theory. I always considered barbless to be easier on the fish because it’s so much quicker to remove the hook with less damage.

Clearly dean has zero experience on the water talking about 40 years. If you’ve ever caught a small fish on a barber hooked it’s gunna mess their lip up a little but if you catch a small small fish on a barbless hook it’s gunna slide right out leaving just a small pin hole. It’s really that simple.
