Actually it's green with pines anywhere at certain elevations. I was near shiprock Arizona and looking at the landscape there was no way it could be green near by. We went up a mountain and boom pine trees with green meadows.

We missed out on the White Mountains last year. And haven't made the entire loop yet, but hopefully this year. West Baldy is one of my favorite areas, especially all the meadows.

Awesome video man! I hike this loop every summer, just did the east loop a few weeks ago, and next week I'll be back to hike the west loop (just a day hike). Concerning the bear sighting... Every time we go we usually see one, but, we're also going during the week when the trail is dead... The bears are generally very spooky in this area and wont give you any trouble. However, we did have one encounter with an aggressive male some years back which was disheartening to say the least. I usually opt out of carrying a pistol while hiking but since our encounter with that grumpy black bear? I always carry in this area when I hike it. Happy trails!

Thanks! Yeah, the more I come across, the more I learn they seem to just want to steer clear of people. But you never know, which is why I carry in some spots as well. Hopefully never use it, but it can't hurt to have a little back up.

We need to do the entire loop. We've only done the West Baldy to the top so far. But we go back about every year, so we'll get it one of these times.

That path you said is to the top I believe is to the public summit. It leads to a 'top' that has a big cairn with a bunch of rocks on top. But the actual Baldy peak is about 1/2 mile south from there. The 'public' summit should be ok to go to because it's slightly out of boundary of the rez. Though I'm guessing they block it off earlier because you can see the actual summit from the cairn and people might keep going on to reach it. This is my interpretation anyways, but I read some other info online (and looked at a boundary map) that seems to confirm it.

What time of year is good for no rain up there? It rains each time we go to the white mountains
@JerryArizona
@JerryArizona 3 жыл бұрын
We usually go up in the summer. It rains a lot up there (including this trip), but on our trips it's generally been in the afternoon and clears up. Winter they get too much snow, so I'd rather deal with the rain.

Thanks! Not sure about that long, but I know you can make a loop out of the East & West Baldy Trails. Just keep walking when you get to where we stopped at the top. It can be done in a day, but I've been wanting to make it a two day, camping at the top then coming down the other side and back to the car.

Jerry I have just a few more things to get together to have a backpacking setup and in just curious what water filtration system you use?
@JerryArizona
@JerryArizona 4 жыл бұрын
I use a Camelback All Clear UV system with a Life Straw or Sawyer Squeeze as back up. Plus side, it's quick and very effective. And light. Bad side is it's electronic so it needs to be charged and it could break. Also, it doesn't physically filter particles out (it just sterilizes), so muddy water is going to still be muddy. So if you're around clear water, it's great. But gravity/pump filters are also supposed to work great.

Great video. Did you start at east or west trail, and start or end with crossover? Also which you recommend?
@JerryArizona
@JerryArizona 5 жыл бұрын
We've only done the West Baldy #94 trail up to the top, then turned around and went back out that way. I haven't done the east trail. But #94 goes along the creek where there are a lot of meadows (shown in the beginning of the video). I felt that was more scenic than when the trail starts going up. So I'm guessing the east trail is a lot more in the trees, less water and less meadows, but I can't say for sure yet. Hopefully we'll do the other side of the loop soon.

I don't believe so. That link is for the east part of the loop (assuming west is the same) and best I could tell it just says to sign the registry a the trailhead. We have day hiked it without a permit and backpacked it mistakenly with a White Mountain Apache camping permit, which doesn't apply since it is a wilderness area under the FS.

Surprisingly, last time we were there (I have another video I posted recently), we stopped at a place called Patron's. It was pretty good. There is another one close by that we hit up a couple years back and....no bueno. Best places we've found are Escobar's in Kanab, UT and El Patio off the I-17 at the Cornville exit. Burger House on the way back from Baldy is supposed to be great, but it's always closed when we're there.

Sal Duran we did West Baldy Trail#94. You can make a loop out of it and take East Baldy Trail #95, but the rain kinda messed up our plans for that. This was from late August 2018.

Thanks man! Planning to head back up to the White Mountains soon. We want to check out Thompson Trail and Pacheta Falls. Funny because I randomly ran into some people I know up at the Mogollon Rim last weekend. They said "Well, if we were to run into anyone randomly in the woods, it figures it would be you." Guess that's about right.

Which trail are you on? I am guessing west fork?
@JerryArizona
@JerryArizona 6 жыл бұрын
It's the West Baldy Trail in the White Mountains. Basically it links with the East Baldy to make a loop, but we went in and out on the west trail. If you mean West Fork in Sedona, we've done that one probably more than most trails. We backpack it at least once a year.
@mauijoe1000

Hi Jerry I meant west Baldy, I forgot the specific trail name. Thank you. I thought it was named after west fork of the little Colorado. I also watched your hanging gardens video and confluence video. The detail is incredible especially showing the navigation and landmarks and the back and forth to maps. I hope traffic picks up for you and you get more subscribers.

Thanks man. Glad you enjoy. I love making these things from hiking to shooting and even editing. And yeah. I had to look up the official name of the trail from the sign in the video. I’ve always just called it the mount Baldy loop.

So wait, it's called mount baldy loop, but you can't complete the loop?
@JerryArizona
@JerryArizona 5 жыл бұрын
Kevin May yeah, you can. I should’ve been more clear. The loop trail turns around near where I first show the sign toward the top; you can follow it back down toward where you start to make the loop. We just went back down the same side of the loop we went up. You can’t go all the way up to the top of mount Baldy itself unless you’re white mountain Apache or get their permission.

Why make a backpacking video that's just a close up of your own face?
@JerryArizona
@JerryArizona 2 жыл бұрын
Because you have to learn how to make videos somehow. This was where I was transitioning from just b-roll to b-roll mixed with information on the hike. I cringe watching old stuff. This has horrible image quality on the talking parts, too much talking that is irrelevant talking, the cuts are too short and speed ramping is way over used. But you have to start somewhere and learn how to improve, which I've been trying to do in the three+ years since publishing this.
