Another great video. Believe it or not, that stream, in its lower sections, looks like a lot of the headwaters of the rivers that drain into Lake Ponchartrain, that I like to fish; in their lower sections, they're wide and swampy, ringed with cypress trees, but get up in the red hills to the north, and they're sandy bottomed creeks, with actual moving water. Of course, no trout down here, but a lot of spotted bass and bream. I just got back from 10 days in the Smokies - caught my pb brown...these browns were strange - all very silvery, and extremely aggressive - they would shoot right across several feet of pool to get to my fly or nymph.
@WoolyBugged2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the sharing, I have to get to the Smokies!

I went to SLU. I enjoyed the Bogue Falaya from Red Bluff through the St. Joseph's Abby to Covington. Just east of SLU is Chapapela creek. It flows out of Zemurry Gardens and into the Tangipahoa just North of 190? The Tangipahoa itself was fun too. Never tried the Abita.

Thats one of my favorite creeks for NJ brown trout fishing, spot at 12:16 is one of my favorites and there's some great spots going upstream if you want to hit it when that "establishment" isnt active , usually Sundays i found they dont operate. spot at 12:45 actually is new to me that looked like a sick spot. have you guys ever found brook trout in that creek? I've yet to unfortunately in that whole creek.
@northeasternfly2 жыл бұрын
Hey there! Nope I have not. Wouldn’t be surprised if they are in the upper most section.
@ledraps222 жыл бұрын
@@northeasternfly Yea i love how it looks up there, too bad there's mostly houses and private property as it runs through some really cool looking boulders/plunge pools etc. I'm a fan of PA fishing but need to explore NY and catskills more lol so i sub'd hoping to find encouragement in your uploads :D

@@ledraps22 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 the Catskills are a very special place. It can make for some difficult fishing. Just like most bigger water, persistence and learning the nuances of the system will help you garner more success.

So, New Jersey hasn't stocked Brown Trout since 2017 in the water you fished or in the whole state?
@ledraps222 жыл бұрын
New Jersey F&W doesnt stock browns, but club stocking/private stockings still dump in browns on their private waters, which eventually spread out and swim around public waters. They're pretty obvious to identify; they are normally torn up, fat, and ugly lol. You can still find these club browns in the major waterways where the clubs stock on occasion, they often holdover. Most brown trout in NJ is wild however and it's an easy tell based off how they look (like in this video) Along with browns, i think clubs/private stockings also dump in some Tigers and palominos or whatever you'd like to call those orange gremlings lol. Most clubs are not in smaller headwater creeks like this, they often have property on main stems of the popular trout streams in NJ. So you will find most headwater creeks like the one in the video feature mostly wild fish. Not that the stocked fish havent been found to swim upstream for miles. Tight lines!
@northeasternfly2 жыл бұрын
@@ledraps22 everything he said ^ 100% accurate. The state hasn’t stocked browns since 2013.
@mikeroberti85252 жыл бұрын
@@northeasternfly additionally, I don’t think NJDEP would give permission (permit) to clubs or individuals to stock a listed “wild Trout” water. I have also caught a wild rainbow in this stream. It was maybe 4”-5” with par marks.

My personal rules when fishing for wild trout in NJ…..1) lie by at least 3 counties where you’re fishing; 2) always walk at least a 1/4 mile in the wrong direction on the adjacent road to throw vehicles passing by off; 3) if anyone does see you, lie and tell them that you only caught chubs and small sunnies; and 4) if a stranger or even a friend is really pressing for spot you caught a fish in your photo, just tell them the Gorge. That place is so hyped up that they’d believe it and 1 more angler is not going to make a difference.
