@@McFlyAnglergreat video guys. Making fly fishing look way too easy and way too much fun. Also props to yall, finding some clear water spots, honestly I find it quite hard to do in Houston, as every pond is a concrete man made chocolate milk bowl.

Howdy 👋, Picked up my first outfit a week ago. Have been addicted since. I am based out in the Houston area so this was quite literally perfect for me. I am also away in England for a bit so this is a great video for the time being. Am a big fan of your carp video on the flats. Really envious of your casting however I’m sure mine will improve over time. Thinking of heading to a shop or clinic to maybe work on casting with someone more knowledgeable. This creek fishing and stalking is exactly, and I mean exactly, what I want to do.

Also random thought, but as you mentioned Niel’s 1wt setup- Have you ever seen or used a practice rod as an actual fly fishing rod. TFO micro or the orvis practicaster with a micro fly reel zip tied onto the butt.

Hey congrats for the new rod! And yes you will improve over time, casting takes time to perfect, and it’s something I still am working on after all these years. For the carp video, do you mean the one in New Mexico I made 6 or so years ago? On the little lake near the San Juan river? Yeah it’s a cool little creek, I love that kinda fishing also! I haven’t ever used a practice rod for either fishing or practice. I’m sure it could work, like tenkara style maybe? If you ever make it out to San Antonio I would be happy to help give you some lessons on casting and such. Otherwise I think a few places in Houston do lessons…. Not sure how expensive they are though

@ howdy sir, thank you so much for the reply! It’s been so much fun already just learning about this style of fishing even if I’m not casting. (I have been itching to cast though, weather is quite windy some days so I may invest in the echo mico practice rod. So that I can mess around indoors and improve) Yes sir I believe it is the little lake that you were fishing at, but also have seen the trout rod 20+ minute fight. Really intrigued by carp on the fly, especially in Houston we have some wierd urban spots. The idea that all fish can be caught is what truly captures me, catfish, carp, mullet, bass, panfish, gar. Literally anything. I think especially for carp, they fight so hard, earning their nickname mud marlin, so obviously I want to target them in the future. Also just to add on further, when I was speaking of the practice fly rod and actually fishing with it I should have mentioned the man with the initial idea @COAFFIELDTEAM He ended up creating this ultralight fly combo that was quite interesting to watch. I have been on the hunt looking if there are some clinics or lessons around. And I have had luck as I think there are some private lessons I could book - the site looks outdated but no harm in contacting. Houston has a couple fly stores which I am considering heading to, to just talk with some knowledgeable people, and apparently they have a casting pool. Honestly sir that may be one of the coolest things someone has offered. I absolutely love wetting a line, especially with others. I am currently a college student at Texas A&M and picked up the fly to learn in my free time. If I ever am down in San Antonio, would love to take you up on that offer. Apologies for the long messages, just super interested in fly fishing. wishing you a merry Christmas and happy new year
