One day had a speech with my Bulgarian friend and collague. His name is Georgi. I asked him, hey Georgi, how did ancient Bulgarians called the God he said, Tangra :) He asked how we call god. I said Tengri and nowadays Tanri too. The he realized that Bulgarians and Turks actually close to each other than he thinks. The old generation Bulgarians reject theirTurkic origins but in open world like now, the youngs understand that better. Khan Krum was a Khan just like other Khans of Bulgaria. Another funny thing, my Macedonian friends calls my Bulgarian friends ''Tatars" :D And for me as a Turk Macedonians are mostly Slavs but the Bulgarians are not. Peace and have a happy new year. Modern Bulgarians are Slavs,they are not related to Old Turkic peoples. IYI is the Kāyīg tribe's ong-gun(symbol),the most noble and ancient tribe among Oghurs and Oghuzs. Dulo and Ottoman,both claimed ancestry from this clan.

I am slavian and many people think about Bulgaria like one of the slavic country but when I hear music and language I have big problem with that. Any Bulgarian man/woman who can say more about their identity?

The most recent study showed that it's not a Turkic tribe as popularized by the Soviet union propaganda, but a native European people, with greatest similarities with the Italians, Hungarians, Romanians and the people of Northern Greece. A unique people's native to Europe coming out of the Balkans. They have Thracian blood, as well as a bit of Slavic, but they are their own people's. Unlike the Serbs and Croats for example who are mostly a South Slavic tribe, unique to their own Slavic tribe, not similar to that of the Russians, Polish, etc.

The modern bulgars have assimilated from the protobulgars, who lived in the territories of modern Russia and Ukraine. Modern bulgars are Slavic, although the protobulgars were turk tribes. Genetically they are very distant from each other, but the word “Bulgar” has “migrated” to a new territory, which is now Bulgaria

@@playstationgamersrusak2490 They're not. Protobulgarians are not turkic, they're a Balkan tribe that originated in the Balkans, and then started going to Asia. That is an old theory, propagated by Stalin and the Soviet Union. What I'm talking about are latest anthropological studies, done by Italian scientists and the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. They've taken bone samples from ancient burial sites that are 3-5000 years old. Bulgarians are culturally slavic, yes, but they have a very small amount of genetic slavic material, they have more Thracian blood, but again, they are a unique European people's native to the Balkans.

In Russia we even celebrate the conversion to Islam of the Povolzhian Bulgars. How can it be possible, according to the newest researches? Also, the old „Great Bulgaria“ existed in the modern territories of Ukraine and Russia, modern Crimea,Kherson, Donetsk, Kharkiv, Azov etc.
